Starting January 26, 2026, Microsoft AI (MAI) employees who live within a 50- mile commute of a designated Microsoft office in the U.S. or 25-mile commute of a non-U.S., country-specific location are expected to work from the office at least four days per week. This expectation is subject to local law and may vary by jurisdiction.
Responsibilities- You will design and develop distributed software systems that are reliable, scalable, and performant.
- You will work closely with other engineers, product managers, and cross-functional partners to deliver impactful features and improvements.
- You will write high-quality, maintainable, and testable code, and participate in code reviews to ensure best practices are followed. You will help identify and resolve production issues, and continuously improve the performance and reliability of our systems.
- You will collaborate with stakeholders to understand requirements, translate them into technical specifications, and deliver solutions that meet business goals. You will be expected to take initiative, think proactively, and contribute to a culture of continuous improvement.

QualificationsRequired Qualifications:- Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 2+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python
- OR equivalent experience.
Other Requirements:Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings:
- Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud background check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.
Preferred Qualifications:- Master's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 3+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python
- OR Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 5+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python
- OR equivalent experience.
- 2+ years of experience building and shipping scalable cloud solutions in distributed systems.
- 2+ years of experience building and shipping production quality software or services.
- Experience working with Service Fabric or Kubernetes.
- Drive to improve performance, availability, and reliability of services.
- Motivation to increase efficiencies through automation.
- Passion for designing and building large-scale distributed systems.
- Familiarity with building software systems that apply security best practices.

Software Engineering IC3 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $100,600 - $199,000 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $131,400 - $215,400 per year.
