Job Description:

INNOVATE WITHOUT BOUNDARIES! At Milwaukee Tool we firmly believe that our People and our Culture are the secrets to our success - so we give you unlimited access to everything you need to create disruptive new technologies and solutions on our electrical engineering teams. Our Engineering Team is responsible for giving life to the batteries, motors, and electronics that power solutions changing the lives of our users. Every developmental phase of these critical components happens in-house under the watch of this team. We continue to invest in electrical engineering resources to design and develop leadership in electronic capabilities; something unique within the industry. And we're pushing the limits in firmware engineering, power electronics, embedded systems, machine learning, and the use of artificial intelligence.

Behind our doors you'll be empowered every day to own it, drive it, and do what it takes to design and develop the biggest breakthroughs in the industry. Meanwhile, you'll have the support and resources of the fastest-growing brand in the construction industry to make it happen. Year after year, our team continues to make significant breakthroughs in the industry. We're just getting started. To learn more about our story click HERE.

As a Principal Power Electonics Engineer on the Power Tool Technology team, you will investigate and develop new technologies and identify engineering trends to drive strategies and technical direction for Milwaukee Tool's power tool and equipment businesses. You will work in a team environment interacting with cross-functional stakeholders to enable power tool solutions that change the lives of our users.

You'll be DISRUPTIVE through these duties and responsibilities:
  • Apply expert knowledge of power semiconductors to drive system-level tradeoff studies for motor drives and power conversion electronics, with strong emphasis on power density, signal integrity, EMI/EMC performance, and robustness in harsh, real-world environments.
  • Evaluate and investigate emerging technologies (devices, topologies and methods) to reduce risk and enable future product insertion aligned with business and product initiatives.
  • Lead technology investigations encompassing system requirements definition, architecture development, and data-driven technology assessment.
  • Perform power loss, efficiency, thermal, and durability analyses to guide design decisions and assess technology readiness.
  • Define, apply, and enforce EMI/EMC mitigation strategies and best practices for high-power, high-speed designs to ensure regulatory compliance and consistent performance.
  • Interact with suppliers to understand their roadmaps and influence the design of components optimized to meet our performance needs and cost targets.
  • Provide technical leadership through mentoring, design reviews and cross-functional collaboration.
  • Quickly, effectively, and candidly frame-up and escalate business risks/opportunities to senior leadership.

What TOOLS you'll bring with you:
  • Bachelor of Science Degree in Electrical Engineering or related field.
  • 7+ years of experience designing motor drives and power electronics including switch mode power supply topologies, inverters, and semiconductor component selection.
  • Expertise in modern brushless motor drive architectures and power conversion topologies, with the ability to execute power-dense, component-level designs.
  • In-depth knowledge of silicon and GaN power semiconductors, including device tradeoffs and application differences that enable efficient, high-power designs.
  • Firm understanding of magnetic circuit design including: Transformer design, gapped energy storage devices and filtering components.
  • Proven ability to perform power loss analysis, efficiency optimization, and thermal design using appropriate analytical and simulation methods.
  • Extensive hands-on experience with motor drive and power supply system design tradeoffs, particularly related to signal integrity, noise, and robustness.
  • Strong working knowledge of EMC/EMI concepts including identification of sources, transmission paths and mitigation methods effective in high-power, high-noise environments.
  • Solid understanding of motor control fundamentals and control system design principles as they relate to motor drive hardware.
  • Proficient with schematic capture, PCB layout, SPICE, and other simulation tools; applies industry best practices for power conversion PCB layout.
  • Strong prototyping, debug, and root-cause analysis skills, supported by effective use of lab instrumentation and measurement techniques.
  • Hands-on approach with proven mechanical aptitude and ability to collaborate across electrical, mechanical, and manufacturing disciplines.
  • Strong leadership experience. Self-motivated, organized, efficient, process oriented with a strong work ethic.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills, exercises independent judgement and works well under pressure in a dynamic environment.
  • Ability to travel 10% of the time (domestic and international).

Other TOOLS we prefer you to have:
  • Master of Science degree in Electrical Engineering with focus in power electronics.

We provide these great perks and benefits:
  • Robust health, dental and vision insurance plans.
  • Generous 401 (K) savings plan.
  • Education assistance.
  • On-site wellness, fitness center, food, and coffee service.
