The Mission
Join the frontline of Fleet readiness at the world's largest naval base. As an Availability Work Pack Manager, you will serve as a critical integrator for Chief of Naval Operations (CNO) Surface Ship Maintenance Availabilities. You won't just monitor schedules; you will be the "connective tissue" between TYCOM, SURFMEPP, and the Program Office, ensuring our surface ships return to the fight on time, on budget, and technically ready.

Key Responsibilities:
In this role, you will drive the planning of complex shipboard maintenance and modernization projects. Your expertise will directly influence the lifecycle of the Atlantic Surface Fleet through the following: The Availability Work Package Manager (AWPM) acts as the central focal point for the technical and engineering efforts required to prepare a Navy ship for a major maintenance period (CNO Availability).

Core Responsibilities
  • Package Integration: Compiles and manages the Availability Work Package (AWP), incorporating data from sources like the Class Maintenance Plan, CSMP, and shipboard assessments.
  • Technical Problem Solving: Develops resolutions for engineering problems that arise during the planning phase and ensures work specifications meet Navy certification standards.
  • Milestone Monitoring: Validates and tracks critical planning milestones (such as A-360 or A-120) to ensure the ship is "Ready to Start" its maintenance on schedule.
  • Stakeholder Liaison: Serves as the primary link between the Type Commander (TYCOM), Regional Maintenance Centers (RMC) to coordinate funding and resource allocation.
  • Risk & Deferral Management: Identifies items that could impact the schedule or budget and helps draft deferral letters when certain maintenance tasks cannot be completed during the availability.
  • Financial Oversight: Reviews of cost estimates and Business Case Analyses (BCA) to ensure the scope of work aligns with available funding.

Qualifications
  • Experience: Minimum of 10 years in Navy Maintenance practices (e.g., prior experience with 3-M systems, surface ship maintenance availabilities, Port Engineer support, or Shipyard project teams).
  • Technical Skills: Proficiency in MS Office Suite and a proven ability to master Navy-specific databases (VSB / NMD / NDE / MFOM / CSMP).
  • Communication: Exceptional writing skills for drafting After Action Reports (AARs) and the ability to deliver briefs to senior leadership.
  • Education: High School Diploma or equivalent.
