Job Description Summary
GE HealthCare is a leading global medical technology and digital solutions innovator. Our purpose is to create a world where healthcare has no limits. Join us to turn ideas into world-changing realities where every voice matters and every difference builds a healthier world. Make a real-world impact through hands-on experience.

Job Description

Make a real-world impact through hands-on engineering experience.

Are you passionate about engineering and eager to contribute to innovations that improve lives? As an Engineer Co-op/Intern at GE HealthCare, you'll work alongside experienced engineers to design and develop mechanical and electrical components for Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) systems. You'll gain exposure to real-world challenges, build technical skills, and contribute to solutions that advance healthcare technology.

This co-op/intern experience is designed to prepare you for a future career in engineering by immersing you in the full product development lifecycle. You'll be part of a collaborative team working on complex MRI systems and components, such as superconducting magnets, gradient coils, and RF body coils. Your work may include:
  • Designing and analyzing MRI sub-components including mechanical, electrical, structural, and thermodynamic elements
  • Performing thermodynamic and heat transfer analysis to determine heat loads and verify performance
  • Simulating and designing printed circuit boards (PCBs) and electrical components for RF coil systems
  • Supporting thermal and structural design efforts
  • Participating in verification and validation testing, including engineering builds
  • Conducting reliability and failure analysis of components
  • Developing service tools to support maintenance and safety
  • Preparing and presenting design analysis reports and drawing reviews
  • Supporting manufacturing and Lean initiatives

Qualifications

We're looking for students who are curious, driven, and ready to make an impact. You are:
  • Currently enrolled full-time in an undergraduate program at an accredited college or university
  • Pursuing a degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, Physics, or a related field
  • At least a sophomore standing

Preferred Qualifications
  • GPA of 3.0 or higher is preferred; however, we value a holistic view of candidates and encourage all students with relevant experience, curiosity, and a passion for engineering to apply.
  • Demonstrated interest in medical technology, product development, or systems engineering.
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills, especially in cross-functional team environments.
  • Experience with CAD tools, simulation software, or lab-based prototyping is a plus.
  • Prior internship, co-op, or project experience in mechanical, electrical, or biomedical engineering is beneficial.
