Summary

Network Operations Center (NOC) Engineer / Network Engineer

Location: Omaha, NE (Onsite - 5 days a week)

As a Network Operations Center (NOC) Engineer, you will support mission-critical network operations in a fully onsite, incident-management focused environment. You’ll monitor, troubleshoot, and help maintain network connectivity across routers, switches, core protocols, telecom/ISP services, and microwave radio communications. This role is ideal for a network professional who thrives in a fast-paced operations setting and is ready to support essential transportation, utility, telecom, or railroad systems.

This is a fully onsite role with a fixed second or third shift schedule:

  • 3:15 PM–11:15 PM, or
  • 11:15 PM–7:15 AM

The workweek will be either Sunday–Thursday or Tuesday–Saturday.

Responsibilities

  • Monitor and support network operations from a NOC environment, responding to incidents, alerts, outages, and service-impacting events.
  • Perform troubleshooting for network connectivity, routing, switching, and core network protocol issues.
  • Support configuration, administration, and maintenance activities for routers, switches, and related network infrastructure.
  • Coordinate with telecom vendors, utility providers, ISPs, and internal teams to resolve circuit, connectivity, and service issues.
  • Assist with microwave radio communication support, including initial triage and escalation; general familiarity is sufficient, and deeper technical knowledge can be developed on the job.
  • Support incident management processes, including issue identification, prioritization, documentation, escalation, and resolution tracking.
  • Use Linux system administration knowledge to support network-related systems and operational tools.
  • Communicate clearly during active incidents, providing timely status updates to stakeholders and technical teams.
  • Help maintain operational documentation, runbooks, incident records, and knowledge articles.
  • Support mission-critical environments where reliability, responsiveness, and attention to detail are essential.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to restore services quickly and reduce recurring incidents.
  • Participate in shift-based handoffs to ensure continuity across network operations.

Qualifications

  • Experience with general network administration, network configuration, and troubleshooting.
  • Strong understanding of networking fundamentals, including routers, switches, and core network protocols.
  • Experience working in a NOC, operations center, incident-management, or technical support environment.
  • Familiarity with telecom vendor, ISP, WAN, or utility connectivity coordination.
  • General familiarity with microwave radio communications; hands-on or deeper technical experience is a plus.
  • Familiarity with Linux distributions and basic system administration concepts.
  • Ability to assess incidents, troubleshoot under pressure, and escalate appropriately.
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to coordinate across vendors, ISPs, technical teams, and stakeholders.
  • Availability to work fully onsite on a fixed second or third shift schedule.
  • Availability to work either a Sunday–Thursday or Tuesday–Saturday workweek.
  • Preferred experience supporting railroad environments, train operations systems, Positive Train Control, or Centralized Traffic Control.
  • Experience supporting other mission-critical transportation, utility, telecom, or infrastructure environments is highly valued.
  • Strong sense of ownership, reliability, and follow-through in an operational support environment.
