Job Summary

We are seeking a Principal / Lead Mobile Software Engineer with strong Android development expertise and hands-on experience with Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) communication. The ideal candidate will have experience developing software for medical devices or healthcare applications and some iOS development experience.

This role will involve designing and developing secure, reliable, and user-friendly mobile applications that communicate with medical hardware while following regulated medical software development processes and industry standards.

Required Qualifications

• 10+ years of experience in mobile software development.

• Strong hands-on experience with Android development using Kotlin and/or Java.

• Strong hands-on experience with Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE).

• Experience with BLE:

  • Device scanning and discovery

  • Connection and reconnection

  • Pairing and bonding

  • Characteristic read/write

  • Notifications

  • Background BLE operations

  • Device interoperability

  • Firmware update workflows

• Medical device or healthcare domain experience is required.

• Some hands-on iOS development experience is required, preferably with Swift/Objective-C and Core Bluetooth.

• Familiarity with IEC 62304 and medical device software development lifecycle processes.

• Experience with software documentation, quality systems, verification, validation, and regulated development environments.

• Strong understanding of Agile/Scrum methodologies.

• Experience with Git and modern software development practices.

• Strong object-oriented design and software engineering fundamentals.

• Demonstrated technical leadership and architecture experience.

• Strong analytical, debugging, problem-solving, and communication skills.

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or a related field.

Key Responsibilities

• Design and develop Android mobile applications that communicate with medical devices through BLE.

• Implement secure and reliable BLE workflows including device discovery, pairing, bonding, characteristic interactions, notifications, and firmware updates.

• Collaborate with iOS developers, QA, clinical, hardware, and systems teams to deliver consistent cross-platform solutions.

• Contribute to iOS development using Swift/Objective-C and Core Bluetooth when required.

• Develop clean, maintainable, testable, and well-documented software.

• Participate in architecture, design, risk assessment, and technical design reviews.

• Follow medical device software development standards, including IEC 62304.

• Support software verification, validation, and regulatory submission activities.

• Troubleshoot and resolve complex issues involving BLE communication, device interoperability, application behavior, and customer-reported defects.

• Prepare software development and test documentation, reports, change requests, and other required engineering artifacts.

• Participate throughout the complete software development lifecycle, including requirements, architecture, design, development, code reviews, testing, and release activities.

• Analyze, evaluate, and verify software and system requirements using established engineering standards and best practices.

• Provide technically sound and architecturally robust solutions for complex engineering challenges.

• Demonstrate technical leadership and provide guidance on mobile architecture, development practices, and engineering solutions.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience developing mobile applications for medical devices.

• Experience with BLE-connected healthcare or medical hardware.

• Experience working within regulated environments such as FDA-regulated medical device development.

• Experience with IEC 62304, ISO 13485, risk management, verification, and validation.

• Experience working across both Android and iOS platforms.

• Experience collaborating with embedded, firmware, hardware, clinical, and QA teams.
