Summary

You ll be a technical leader who emphasizes electromechanical systems for window-covering automation, high-volume productization, cross-functional leadership, and design governance by driving the mechanical design of motorized window-covering systems and accessories and you ll do it with a design-driven mindset. This includes global leading consumer products with strong industrial design (ID) intent, CMF (color/material/finish), ergonomics, tactile feel, sound quality, and an exceptional overall user experience. You ll own end-to-end delivery from concept through production, set the bar on design rigor (DFM/DFA, tolerance, acoustics, reliability), and mentor a cross-functional team while partnering with domestic and overseas suppliers.

What You ll Do

  • Lead electromechanical design for motorized shade systems and accessories (geartrains, housings, mounts, clutch interfaces, battery enclosures, connectors).
  • Own design governance: drive and maintain the Design Review Release Process; ensure documentation quality (CAD, drawings, BOMs, specs, ECOs).
  • Scale high-volume products: architect for annual volumes ranging from ~10k to 400k+, balancing cost, manufacturability, reliability, and acoustic performance.
  • Run deep engineering analyses: tolerance stacks, durability/cycle life, DFMEA, friction/torque budgets, mechanism kinematics, NVH/noise, thermal, and FEA as needed.
  • Prototype & validate: plan and execute builds, test methods/fixtures, life tests, environmental/abuse tests, acoustics, aesthetics ID appearance, customer user experience, and system power/energy measurements.
  • Motor & drive selection: specify, source, and validate DC motors/gear motors for performance, reliability, sound quality, and cost; collaborate on motor control needs with EE/FW.
  • Power systems: design for Li-ion rechargeable and alkaline battery solutions; partner on BMS/charging, safety, and compliance.
  • Manufacturing partnership: integrate DFM/DFA early; work closely with contract manufacturers and tiered suppliers in China, South Korea, Germany, Mexico, and U.S. sites.
  • Cross-functional leadership: coordinate with Product Management, Sourcing global suppliers and contract manufacturers, Quality, Compliance, and various brand product groups; guide external design consultants to ensure quality design integrity through MP.
  • Implement engineering with industrial design: translate ID intent into the client design language into robust, manufacturable mechanisms and housings (tight seams/witness lines, controlled draft/parting, consistent wall thickness, hidden fasteners, refined textures).
  • Own CMF & finish quality: specify textures, gloss, and coatings; drive color harmony across remotes, hubs, battery packs, chargers, and mounts; partner with suppliers on gate/runner placement to protect A-surfaces.
  • Champion customer experience: incorporate Voice of Customer (VoC), usability studies, and field feedback early; design for intuitive install/use, ergonomic actuation, haptics, and acoustics (quiet, pleasant sound).
  • Design governance: maintain the Design Review Release Process with explicit checkpoints for constraints, surfaces, draft angles, tolerances, stack-up analyses, critical inspections, tooling design (ejectors/gates definition), mold ID, test results, assembly processes, PCBA electronics, EOL fixtures, firmware/software revisions, and a complete BOM revision-controlled AVL list.
  • Sustainability & quality: champion durability, reparability, materials selection, and energy efficiency; drive cost and quality improvements for current lines.
  • Mentor and upskill junior engineers and designers; elevate best practices and tools.

Minimum Qualifications

  • BS in Mechanical Engineering (MS preferred).
  • 8+ years in mechanical product development with electromechanical systems and high-volume consumer/architectural products.
  • Proven ownership from concept to production on motorized/actuated products or compact mechanisms.
  • Expert in 3D CAD (SolidWorks and/or NX UG), mechanical drawings, GD&T, and revision control/PDM.
  • Strong DFM/DFA with plastics (injection molding/overmold), die casting, extrusions, sheet metal, and precision assemblies.
  • Hands-on with tolerance analysis, DFMEA, cycle/life testing, NVH/noise, and reliability methods.
  • Experience specifying/validating DC motors/gear trains and designing around battery systems (Li-ion).
  • Demonstrated success working with global suppliers/CMs and cross-functional teams.
  • Human factors/HMI background: ergonomics, button/knob feel, optical indicators, UX prototyping.
  • CMF expertise (mold-texture callouts, gloss units, delta-E color control, coating specs, UV/chemical resistance).
  • Experience running VoC programs, usability tests, beta trials, and translating findings into design changes.
  • Clear communicator; able to influence, document decisively, and drive alignment.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with home automation/IoT accessories, HMI/ergonomics, and user-centric design/Voice of Customer.
  • Familiarity with embedded systems integration (sensors, firmware interfaces, EMI/ESD).
  • Acoustic design for small mechanisms (quiet gear train strategies, damping, materials).
  • Test automation, data acquisition, and analysis (current/voltage/energy monitoring).
  • Working knowledge of safety, regulatory, and battery compliance (UL/IEC, UN38.3, RoHS, REACH).
  • Exposure to sustainability practices (LCA, materials selection) a plus.
  • Track record establishing/optimizing design review and release processes.
