RF Engineer Location: 100% Remote
Length: 12+ months contract to hire
Payrate range: $50 - $55/hr.
Schedule: Monday - Friday 8-5PM CST
Job Summary The RF Engineer is responsible for the design, optimization, deployment, and performance of wireless networks across macro and small cell technologies. This role supports the full RF lifecycle-from search area creation and site selection through design, regulatory submission, construction handoff, and activation-while ensuring compliance with technical, regulatory, and client standards.
Key Responsibilities - Perform radio frequency (RF) design and optimization for macro and small cell LTE/5G networks to meet coverage, capacity, and performance objectives.
- Create search areas and support candidate site selection activities for macro and small cell deployments.
- Conduct and document RF site walks, validating proposed designs against field conditions and constructability constraints.
- Produce and maintain RF Design Specifications (RFDS) for macro and small cell sites, including antenna configurations, tilts, azimuths, power, and carrier layers.
- Complete final RF designs and support construction handoff, including participation in cross-functional design and constructability (CD) reviews.
- Perform PCI/RSI planning for single-site updates and multi-site or market-level LTE enhancements, ensuring optimal neighbor and interference performance.
- Support and execute border frequency coordination (FS plots) to ensure compliance with regulatory and cross-border requirements.
- Conduct RF Construction in Quality (CIQ) reviews, ensuring deployed configurations match approved RF designs and documenting discrepancies.
- Prepare and submit E911 documentation, manage E911 integration, and maintain E911 database updates as required.
- Support regulatory and EME (Electromagnetic Emissions) studies, including submissions for macro and small cell deployments (including mid-band and mmWave where applicable).
- Provide macro and small cell activation support, including post-on-air checks, performance validation, and issue resolution through project closeout.
- Perform off-cycle RFDS redesigns and resubmissions driven by scope changes, construction issues, or performance findings.
- Support zoning preparation and approval efforts by providing RF exhibits, narratives, and technical responses.
- Provide RF engineering support for RFPs, including coverage predictions, capacity analysis, and what-if scenarios.
- Conduct what-if analysis and accuracy updates, assessing design changes, traffic growth, or technology overlays to guide strategic decisions.
Preferred Qualifications - Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Telecommunications, or related field
- Experience with RF tools such as Atoll, Planet, Asset, or iBwave
- Familiarity with LTE and 5G NR technologies
- Experience supporting large, multi-market or nationwide carrier programs
- Strong documentation, cross-functional communication, and stakeholder management skills
