Job Title: Manufacturing Engineering Intern / Co-op (Summer 2026)
Core Focus: Process Optimization, Technical Documentation, Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs)
Role Overview
We are seeking a highly motivated, hands-on Manufacturing Engineering Intern / Co-op for a full-time, summer assignment. This is an exceptional opportunity to build foundational, real-world manufacturing experience by embedding directly within an active production facility.
Your primary initiative over this internship will be to partner with cross-functional operations, quality, and engineering teams to audit, standardize, and author shop-floor Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs). You will spend significant time on the production floor, transforming highly technical mechanical processes into crisp, visual work instructions that empower machine operators to run equipment safely, consistently, and efficiently.
Key Responsibilities
Technical Documentation & Process Standardization
SOP Development: Formulate, format, and publish clear, step-by-step Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and visual work instructions for core manufacturing processes and heavy machinery.
Shop-Floor Collaboration: Interface directly with machine operators, shift supervisors, and field technicians to capture tribal knowledge, clarify workflow steps, and document mechanical best practices.
Document Control: Partner with Operations, Quality, and Engineering teams to support strict document control architectures, update training registries, and manage change-control implementations.
Continuous Improvement & Operational Support
Data Synthesis: Support Lean manufacturing and continuous improvement activities through hands-on shop-floor data collection, basic cycle-time analysis, and implementation follow-up.
Workflow Evaluation: Spend active time daily on the production floor to master physical workflows, diagnose operational bottlenecks, and analyze safety requirements.
Quality Auditing: Observe and track product quality expectations, integrating quality-control checkpoints directly into operator documentation.
What You Will Learn & Gain
Direct, practical insight into how a global manufacturing enterprise runs day-to-day operations.
The critical engineering ability to translate complex, abstract technical processes into clear, highly usable documentation for manufacturing training.
Professional, cross-functional communication and leadership skills by working directly with both shop-floor personnel and executive leadership.
Qualifications & Requirements
Minimum Qualifications
Academic Status: Currently enrolled and in good academic standing as a Junior-level undergraduate or Graduate student pursuing a degree in Mechanical, Industrial, Chemical, Manufacturing Engineering, or a closely related technical field (equivalent practical technical experience will be considered).
Availability: Must be fully available to work full-time, daytime hours on-site from May through August 2026.
Environment Adaptability: Ability and willingness to work safely and effectively inside an active industrial manufacturing and production plant environment.
Software Fluency: Proficient with the Microsoft Office Suite (Word formatting, basic Excel data entries, and PowerPoint layouts).
Core Competencies: Exceptional communication, organization, task prioritization, and interpersonal skills. Must be a proactive self-starter with a natural continuous-improvement mindset.
Preferred Attributes
Any previous internship, co-op, or practical hands-on experience within an industrial, manufacturing, or warehousing setting is a strong plus.
