Firmware Software Engineer - Remote

Aptask Global Workforce (AGW) is seeking a Firmware Software Engineer for a Remote position with a Leading Technology Firm located in Remote, CA. This is a 3+ month contract opportunity.

This is a hands-on role for someone who is comfortable owning production issues end-to-end. We are looking for three senior software engineers to support and maintain a live video creation experience. This role is focused on production support and on-call coverage, along with the bug fixes, stability work, and small feature changes that come out of it. You will work across web and backend systems in a large, mature codebase and will be expected to operate independently with limited day-to-day direction.

Responsibilities:

• Participate in the on-call rotation, including triage, investigation, mitigation, and root cause analysis of production issues
• Debug and resolve issues spanning web frontend and backend services in the live creation stack
• Ship bug fixes, reliability improvements, and small to medium feature work
• Improve on-call health by reducing noisy alerts, updating runbooks, and adding monitoring, logging, and dashboards
• Write and maintain tests covering critical live creation flows
• Document findings and fixes so knowledge stays with the team

Requirements:

• 5+ years of professional software engineering experience working on production apps
• Strong web development experience with JavaScript or TypeScript and React
• Strong backend development experience building and debugging server-side services and APIs
• Strong in at least one of: web (PHP/Hack, React), Android (Kotlin/Java) or iOS (Objective-C/Swift), and comfortable reading code in the other two
• Demonstrated ability to work independently: can take an ambiguous production issue, drive it to resolution, and know when to escalate
• Experience with production support or on-call in a high-traffic consumer product
• Comfortable navigating and making safe changes in a large existing codebase with minimal onboarding support
• Production debugging: reads logs and crash reports, finds root causes and fixes regressions quickly
• Experience with an on-call rotation, triaging incoming bugs and meeting deadlines
• Strong written communication, since much of the work is asynchronous and documented

Desired skills:

• Experience with live video, streaming, or real-time media systems
• Experience with GraphQL
• Background in reliability, observability, or SEV response
• Experience working with distributed or globally located teams
• Experience with large-scale internal development tools (code review, feature flags, on-call systems)
• Feature-flag and experiment cleanup or other code-health work
• Accessibility fixes (WCAG, VoiceOver, TalkBack)
• Privacy or data-access fixes
• Experience using AI coding tools to speed up investigation and fixes

Pay range: up to $107.57 per hour
