Role Summary

The SAP Technical Architect is responsible for defining, governing, and evolving the enterprise SAP technical landscape. This role provides architectural leadership across SAP platforms (S/4HANA, BTP, GTS, BDC, integrations) and owns the strategy, planning, and execution of SAP platform upgrades and modernization initiatives. The architect ensures the SAP environment remains secure, scalable, compliant, and upgradeable while aligning with enterprise IT and business transformation goals.

Key Roles & Responsibilities

1. SAP Technical Architecture & Design

• Own the end to end technical architecture of the SAP ecosystem (S/4HANA, BTP, GTS, BDC, Integration Suite, Solution Manager).
• Design and maintain architecture blueprints, technical standards, and reference architectures aligned to SAP and enterprise best practices.
• Guide solution design decisions to minimize customization, promote standard SAP functionality, and ensure long term upgradeability.

2. SAP Technology Strategy & Roadmap

• Define and maintain the SAP technical strategy and multi year roadmap, including cloud, hybrid, and on prem landscape evolution.
• Evaluate and recommend SAP innovations (S/4HANA releases, BTP capabilities, Integration Suite, security enhancements).
• Partner with Enterprise Architecture, Infrastructure, Security, and Release Management teams to ensure strategic alignment.

3. SAP Platform Upgrades & Modernization

• Own and govern SAP platform upgrades, including:
  • S/4HANA releases and support packs
  • SAP BTP services and integration components
• Define upgrade strategies, timelines, and technical dependency plans.
• Ensure upgrades are executed with minimal business disruption through robust testing, cutover planning, and rollback strategies.

4. Platform Governance & Standards

• Establish and enforce technical governance for SAP development, integrations, transports, and configuration.
• Conduct architecture reviews and design authorities for SAP initiatives and projects.
• Ensure compliance with enterprise security, data privacy, audit, and regulatory requirements.

5. Integration & Platform Enablement

• Architect and oversee SAP and non SAP integrations using SAP BTP, Integration Suite/CPI, APIs, and middleware.
• Define extensibility patterns (in app vs side by side) to protect core SAP from upgrade risks.
• Ensure platform reliability, performance, and scalability across releases.

6. Technical Leadership & Stakeholder Engagement

• Act as the technical authority and escalation point for complex SAP platform issues.
• Provide leadership and guidance to SAP Basis, development, integration, and external SI teams.
• Translate business objectives into pragmatic technical solutions and communicate architectural decisions clearly to leadership.

Required Skills & Experience

Technical Skills

• Strong experience with SAP S/4HANA technical architecture
• SAP Basis, SAP HANA, OS/DB upgrades, and performance tuning
• SAP BTP, Integration Suite (BTP IS), Solution Manager, BDC architecture an best practices
• Knowledge of cloud/hybrid SAP deployments and security models

Architecture & Strategy

• Proven experience defining SAP technical strategy and roadmaps
• Expertise in managing large scale SAP upgrades and transformations
• Strong understanding of enterprise architecture principles.
