About the Role
We are looking for an experienced Cloud Data Architect & Database Migration Engineer with a deep specialization in Microsoft Azure and SQL ecosystem,
In this role, you will lead the end-to-end design, planning, and secure execution of migrating mission-critical, highly sensitive financial databases and data warehouses from legacy on-premises data centers to Azure. You will ensure zero data loss, strict adherence to banking regulatory frameworks (such as GDPR, PCI-DSS, or SOX), and high availability with minimal business disruption.
Key Responsibilities
Migration Strategy & Architecture: Design the overarching technical blueprint for migrating complex enterprise databases (SQL Server, Oracle) from physical data centers to Azure (Azure SQL Managed Instance, Azure SQL Database, and Azure Synapse Analytics).
Data Center Decommissioning Support: Collaborate with infrastructure and network engineering teams to map data dependencies, sequence cutover waves, and retire legacy data center footprints safely.
Performance & Security Governance: Implement enterprise-grade security, data encryption (at rest and in transit), Role-Based Access Control (RBAC), and network isolation (Private Endpoints, VNets) compliant with financial regulatory standards.
Pipeline & Sync Orchestration: Design robust ETL/ELT workflows using Azure Data Factory (ADF) and manage hybrid data synchronization (Change Data Capture/CDC, dual-writes) to ensure business continuity during phased migrations.
Advanced Optimization & Troubleshooting: Oversee complex T-SQL code refactoring, query performance tuning, and schema optimizations post-migration to ensure optimal performance in the cloud.
Stakeholder & Vendor Collaboration: Act as the technical subject matter expert (SME), guiding internal engineering squads, database administrators (DBAs), and external audit/compliance teams.
Required Qualifications & Technical Skills
Experience: 8+ years of progressive IT experience, with at least 5+ years tightly focused on cloud data architecture, database design, and large-scale data migrations.
Core Database Mastery: Expert-level knowledge of Microsoft SQL Server and T-SQL, including advanced performance tuning, indexing strategies, high availability (Always On AG), and disaster recovery (DR).
Azure Cloud Ecosystem: Hands-on architecture experience with Azure SQL Managed Instance, Azure SQL Database, Azure Data Lake Storage (ADLS Gen2), and Azure Data Factory.
Migration Tooling: Proven track record of utilizing tools like Azure Database Migration Service (DMS), Data Migration Assistant (DMA), and custom scripting for schema conversions and data validation.
Financial Domain Context: Prior working experience in banking, fintech, or highly regulated financial sectors, understanding data sensitivity, residency requirements, audit trails, and strict security compliance.
Infrastructure & Automation: Familiarity with Infrastructure as Code (Terraform or Bicep) and version control tools (Git/Azure DevOps) for automated deployments.
