Firmware Engineer

Location: REDMOND, Washington (Hybrid)

$71.00 - $78.00 Hourly

Role Overview

This role focuses on the design, development, implementation, and testing of firmware and software applications. The position involves contributing to firmware development, creating test infrastructure, and performing firmware validation to support the launch of an upcoming hardware product. The main function is to develop, validate, and maintain firmware solutions to ensure successful product delivery.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop, validate, and support firmware solutions for hardware products.
  • Contribute to firmware development, test infrastructure creation, and launch readiness activities.
  • Fine-tune and improve sophisticated software implementation projects.
  • Gather and analyze system requirements, document specifications, and develop software solutions.
  • Analyze and review enhancement requests and specifications.
  • Implement and customize system software to meet project requirements.
  • Prepare detailed software specifications and test plans.
  • Code new programs and create test data for validation.
  • Modify existing programs to new standards and conduct unit testing.
  • Create migration packages for system testing, user testing, and implementation.
  • Provide quality assurance reviews and perform post-implementation validation.
Required Qualifications

Education: A bachelor's degree in computer science, computer engineering, or a related technical field is required.

Experience: 10+ years of experience is required, including experience with large systems software design and development. A solid foundation in computer science, with competencies in data structures, algorithms, and software design is necessary. Experience with in-depth troubleshooting and unit testing for both new and legacy production systems is also required.

Technical Skills: Proficiency in programming, with experience in problem diagnosis and resolution is required.

Preferred Qualifications
  • A strong background in firmware and embedded systems debugging.
  • C/C++ development and PowerShell/Python scripting.
  • Experience with hardware diagnostics, protocol analysis, and root-cause investigation.
  • Technical documentation skills and experience working with prototype hardware.
