Warehouse Control Systems (WCS) Consultant
Memphis, TN (Hybrid – minimum 3 days onsite per week)
Contract 6-9 months
Job Description -:
About the Role:
We are seeking a Warehouse Control Systems (WCS) Consultant to support a large-scale warehouse automation and systems project in Memphis. This individual will play a critical role in test script development, validation, documentation, and coordination with both WMS and engineering teams.
The consultant must bring prior hands-on experience designing and executing test scripts for WCS-related functionality and be able to think beyond user stories to capture edge cases, recovery paths, and operational realities. This consultant will be expected to add real value by applying past project knowledge and independent judgment.
Key Responsibilities:
Develop comprehensive test scripts and validation plans for WCS functionality.
Execute test scripts, document results, and track issues through resolution.
Support creation and maintenance of traceability matrices, test documentation, and functional specifications.
Coordinate closely with WMS teams to align dependencies and validate integrated processes.
Provide project coordination support, helping to manage timelines, deliverables, and reporting without requiring close supervision.
Participate in system and process testing for warehouse automation equipment (conveyors, sorters, print-and-apply systems, etc.).
Potentially support end-user training and test execution facilitation.
Core Functional Areas Supported:
Picking and material handling processes.
Conveyor and sorter routing.
Print-and-apply labeling systems.
Integration between WCS and WMS.
Required Qualifications:
Prior experience with testing projects in warehouse or distribution environments (ideally WCS/WMS)
Strong ability to design test scripts beyond simple user stories — with focus on “happy path,” recovery paths, and exception handling.
Hands-on experience in validation environments (regulated or structured testing preferred).
Strong documentation and analytical skills.
Ability to work independently and proactively, with minimal hand-holding.
Solid project coordination skills — able to track tasks, manage documentation, and support schedules.
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience with JIRA for test management and project tracking (preferred, not required).
Knowledge of SAP EWM or related ERP/WMS platforms.
Background in warehouse automation, material handling equipment, or logistics technology projects.
Experience facilitating training or knowledge transfer.
