Job Title: Sr. Manager, Data Platform Engineering & Operations

Reports to: Senior Director, Data & AI Engineering

Location: Goleta, CA (remote position)

Your Impact:

The primary functions of this role, include but are not limited to:

  • Responsible for platform engineering, operations, reliability, supportability, and scalability of data infrastructure and data pipelines. Use expertise in data platform engineering practices, operational excellence, strategic planning, and technical foundation in AWS stack, Python, and SQL.
  • Responsible for decisions on technical stacks, implementation strategies, operational practices, strategic roadmaps, and team development.
  • Drive strategic initiatives to enhance reliability, scalability, efficiency, maintain SLAs, reduce costs, promote automation, and collaborate cross-functionally to continuously improve data workflows essential to company's analytics and strategic business goals. Lead global teams responsible for company's data platforms and operations.
  • 80% of position duties are focused on platform and pipeline engineering and operations; incident management and operational excellence; system monitoring, automation and observability; and cross-functional collaboration and strategic improvement duties. The remaining duties are focused on team leadership, development and hiring.

SALARY: $205,171 - $233,700/year

The salary range posted reflects the minimum and maximum target for new hire salaries for this role in our Goleta, CA location. Individual pay will be determined by location and additional factors, including job related skills, experience, and relevant education or training. Who You Are:

Education/Certifications:

  • Master's degree or equivalent in Computer Science, Information Systems or related field of study

Work Experience:
  • 4 years of experience in any combination of data operations, data engineering, and data analyst positions
  • Will accept a Bachelor's degree or equivalent in Computer Science, Information Systems or related field of study and 6 years of progressive experience in any combination of data operations, data engineering, and data analyst positions in lieu of a Master's degree or equivalent and 4 years of experience.

Skills/Competencies:

Applicants must have demonstrated experience with the following
  • 2 years of experience leading technical teams.
  • designing, building, and optimizing scalable data pipelines and microservice architectures.
  • managing production support processes, SLAs, on-call rotations, and incident escalations.
  • production support for data platforms and ELT (Extract, Load, Transform)/ETL (Extract, Transform, Load) pipelines.
  • SQL, Python, and data engineering frameworks (including dbt).
  • implementing monitoring, observability frameworks, and operational analytics solutions.
  • cloud cost optimization, infrastructure efficiency, and performance tuning.
  • troubleshooting pipeline failures, job delays, and platform incidents.
  • coordinating cross-functional incident response and leading RCA (Root Cause Analysis) documentation and follow-up.
  • security, compliance, and access control in data operations.
  • fostering collaborative relationships with cross-functional teams, including data engineering, analytics, and business leadership
