Job Description

The University of Wisconsin–Madison is seeking an experienced Oracle DBA / Exadata Migration Specialist to support the migration of databases from Exadata Cloud@Customer (X9) to Exadata Cloud@Customer (X11). This engagement involves hands‑on database migration, architecture review, tuning, troubleshooting, and automation.

The successful consultant will work closely with UW‑Madison personnel to migrate both ERP and non‑ERP databases, while ensuring High Availability (HA) and Disaster Recovery (DR) configurations are properly implemented.

Key Responsibilities

Review current Exadata database architecture and assist in designing the target X11 architecture
Develop and execute migration strategies and plans
Migrate databases from Exadata X9 to Exadata X11 using RMAN, Data Guard, and other approved methods
Configure and support HA/DR environments
Perform database performance tuning and complex troubleshooting
Support scripting and automation for operational efficiency
Apply Exadata Critical Patch Updates (preferred)
Collaborate with cross‑functional teams throughout the migration lifecycle

Required Skills & Experience

Strong experience in Oracle Database Administration, Architecture, and Configuration
Hands‑on experience migrating databases to/from Oracle Exadata
Experience with Oracle 19c / 19.x (26.x preferred)
Strong working knowledge of RMAN and Data Guard
Experience in performance tuning and root cause analysis
Scripting experience (Shell, Bash, Python, or similar)
Familiarity with Oracle features such as:
- Multitenancy
- Advanced Compression
- Partitioning
- Cloud Management Pack
Strong written and verbal communication skills

Preferred Experience

Exadata Cloud@Customer experience
Exadata Critical Patch Update experience
Higher Education or public‑sector environment experience
