Position Summary

Designs, develops, and maintains computer software.

Provides technical leadership on small, moderately complex, low risk enhancement projects or support teams, with little supervision.

Delivers moderately complex code/configuration changes as part of a larger implementation under a moderate level of supervision in a primarily full-stack development environment including front-end, policy, integration, and cloud.

What You'll Do:
This opportunity is for an Agentic Engineer in ERIE's AI Center of Excellence. The focus of this position is hands-on development of ERIE's Agentic Lifecycle capability, including the design, build, testing, integration, documentation, and support of agentic software solutions that help delivery teams use AI-powered teammates safely and effectively. This role will work with senior engineers, architects, platform teams, Information Security, governance partners, and delivery teams to implement agent workflows, skills, prompts, APIs, automation, test assets, documentation, runbooks, and evidence artifacts. The Agentic Engineer will help turn emerging agentic architecture patterns into practical, reusable delivery capabilities that improve speed, quality, consistency, and traceability across the software delivery lifecycle.

Preferred Experience & Skills:
Software engineering experience in one or more areas such as full-stack, back-end, integration, cloud, automation, DevOps, platform engineering, scripting, or data-oriented engineering
Experience developing, testing, debugging, documenting, and maintaining software or configuration in an enterprise technology environment
Experience with APIs, Git-based workflows, CI/CD, automated testing, cloud services, scripting, workflow automation, integration patterns, or reusable engineering assets
Ability to work from technical designs and patterns, incorporate feedback, and produce clean, maintainable, well-documented deliverables
Strong collaboration skills and ability to work across architecture, security, governance, platform, and application delivery teams
Experience in AI-assisted engineering, GenAI, LLMs, prompt engineering, tool/function calling, agentic workflows, reusable automation, and responsible use of AI in software delivery

Exposure to agentic workflows, prompt/skill design, MCP or API-based tool integration, AI-assisted software delivery, or workflow orchestration
Experience building reusable automation, internal tools, developer productivity solutions, test harnesses, or platform capabilities
Curiosity and comfort working in an emerging technology space where standards, patterns, and operating practices are still being shaped
Interest in secure engineering, auditability, evidence generation, traceability, human-in-the-loop review, and responsible AI delivery practices

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Generates, reviews and debugs code/configurations that contribute to a larger product.
  • Creates designs, unit tests, and code/configuration of that is reviewed and approved by a more senior engineer.
  • Executes tasks in the software development life cycle
  • Develops tools and applications by producing clean, efficient code
  • Automates tasks through appropriate tools and scripting
  • Performs validation and verification testing (unit and integration testing)
  • Communicates and collaborates openly and effectively across teams and vendors within their area of focus (practice area).
  • May perform as a technical lead on low complexity/isolated applications enhancements or a small, legacy production support team.
  • May coach and mentor programmers, apprentices, and interns.

Qualifications

Minimum Educational and Experience Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in IT, MIS, or related field and three years' related experience; or
  • Associate's degree in technical field, plus five years' related experience; or
  • High school diploma plus seven years' related experience


Additional Experience
  • Possesses moderate acumen with continued growth in experience, breadth, and depth in one or more of the following practice areas:front-end, full-stack, back-end, mainframe, integration, document management, or data science, required.

Designations and/or Licenses
  • Willingness to pursue a certification in one or more preferred technologies at ERIE required
