Sr. Information Systems Specialist

Local DMV candidates only.

Candidate must be able to work onsite in Washington, DC.

Engagement is through the end of the year, with the possibility of extension.

Position Requirements:

Provide a senior engineer to deliver database server administration for the Board's on-premises SQL Server and PostgreSQL environments as automated, FISMA-compliant code supporting the PostgreSQL ATO, cloud-readiness, and platform modernization.

Tasks

  1. Design and implement CI/CD pipelines in GitLab for database server and instance builds, version upgrades, patching, cumulative updates, and configuration changes across SQL Server and PostgreSQL server enterprise service offerings.
  2. Develop and maintain Infrastructure as Code (Powershell, Ansible playbooks/roles executed via AAP; IaC modules) to provision, configure, and enforce desired state for on-premises database servers.
  3. Develop PowerShell scripts and T-SQL stored procedures to automate routine tasks
  4. Automate routine maintenance backups, health checks, patch cycles, drift remediation.
  5. Embed security and compliance in the pipeline: vulnerability scanning, hardening, and FISMA control evidence supporting the PostgreSQL ATO.
  6. Documentation, runbooks, and knowledge transfer.
  7. Database Administration & Operations
    1. Install, configure, upgrade, and maintain SQL Server instances (2019/2022/2025) across development, test, and production environments
    2. Manage database backups, restores, and disaster recovery procedures
    3. Monitor database performance, capacity, and availability using native tools and third-party monitoring solutions
    4. Perform routine maintenance: index optimization, statistics updates, integrity checks (DBCC CHECKDB)
    5. Manage database security: user accounts, roles, permissions, encryption (TDE/Always Encrypted)
    6. Strong experience with Performance Tuning and Optimization.
