Summary

Electronics Technician

Position Summary

The Electronics Technician is responsible for building, testing, troubleshooting, maintaining, and repairing electronic and automated production equipment and systems. This position works with electronic components, electrical circuitry, machine controls, test equipment, and related manufacturing systems.

The Electronics Technician applies knowledge of electronics, electrical systems, automation, PLCs, and machine controls to diagnose equipment issues and ensure reliable operation. This position typically works closely with engineering, maintenance, and production teams.

Key Responsibilities

  • Troubleshoot and repair DC rectifiers, drives, and laser positioning systems to the component level.
  • Diagnose and resolve electrical, electronic, and equipment malfunctions.
  • Read and interpret blueprints, wiring diagrams, schematic drawings, and engineering instructions.
  • Apply electronic theory and knowledge of electrical components to equipment troubleshooting and repair.
  • Test electronic units using standard diagnostic and test equipment.
  • Analyze test results to evaluate equipment performance and determine necessary repairs or adjustments.
  • Repair, adjust, or replace defective circuitry and electronic components using appropriate hand tools and soldering equipment.
  • Troubleshoot and support machine controls, PLCs, robotics, and automated equipment.
  • Work with manufacturers and field representatives when necessary to identify and obtain replacement parts.
  • Make sound technical decisions when diagnosing and resolving equipment issues.
  • Participate in departmental training and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Maintain current knowledge of electronics, automation technology, and industry best practices.

Qualifications

  • Associate degree or Community College Diploma in Electronics Technology or a related field.
  • 1–3 years of experience working with machine controls and PLC programming.
  • Hands-on automation experience required.
  • Experience with PLC programming and CADKey.
  • Experience troubleshooting and programming robotic systems.
  • Working knowledge of pneumatic and hydraulic controls, sensors, electrical hardware, and control wiring/circuitry.
  • Ability to read and understand electrical schematics and technical documentation.
  • Knowledge of applicable electrical and operational codes.
  • Strong troubleshooting, problem-solving, and root-cause analysis skills.
  • Ability to apply mathematical concepts and formulas to technical problems.
  • Ability to develop alternative solutions when troubleshooting equipment.
  • Strong organizational and time-management skills.
  • Ability to exercise sound, independent judgment.
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills.
