Boeing Commercial Airplanes is hiring for Mechanical Systems Design & Analysis Engineers (Associate, Experienced or Senior) to join our 787 Mechanical Systems Design Engineering team located in North Charleston, South Carolina.

The Mechanical Systems Design & Analysis Engineer will support the development and documentation of mechanical and fluid system and thermal environment requirements to establish the system design of one of the four listed systems (Environmental Control Systems (ECS), Hydraulics, Flight Deck, Flight Controls) for the 787 Program in a sustaining production environment. Project examples include addressing design obsolescence, developing product improvements, supporting production build and test, supporting new customer introduction, and supporting the in-service fleet.

Our team is currently hiring for a broad range of experience levels including Associate Level (Level 2), Mid-Level (Level 3) and Senior (Level 4) Mechanical Systems Design & Analysis Engineers.

Position Responsibilities:

Associate (Level 2):
  • Supports the development and documentation of mechanical and fluid system and thermal environment
  • Supports the development, maintenance or modification of system designs/proposals to provide design documentation and high-level requirements to downstream users/customers
  • Performs detail design development and modification of mechanical and fluid system installations
  • Performs spatial integration at system or component level and modification of mechanisms/landing gear/ordinance systems
  • Assists in preparing technical documents for mechanical components and systems
  • Assists in supporting proposal preparation and new business development efforts
  • Works under general supervision

Experienced (Level 3):
  • Supports the development and documentation of mechanical and fluid system and thermal environment requirements to establish the system design
  • Supports the development, maintenance, or modification of system, component, and installation designs/proposals to provide design documentation to downstream groups
  • Performs and documents analysis to validate and verify systems and components meet requirements and specifications
  • Contributes to supplier development, test, and production activities and directs the supplier to optimize integration and achieve program goals
  • Supports system components' designs/proposals standards to provide installation and detail documentation
  • Trains others
  • Works under general direction

Senior (Level 4):
  • Leads and provides technical quality review of the development and documentation of mechanical and fluid systems to establish the system design
  • Leads activities to validate and verify mechanical and fluid systems requirements
  • Leads the development, maintenance, or modification of system components' designs/proposals to provide installation and detail documentation
  • Leads technical meetings and planning efforts, presenting technical information to wide range of audiences
  • Manages supplier development, test, and production activities and directs the supplier to optimize integration and achieve program goals
  • Prioritizes, delegates and tracks performance and documentation of analyses of fluid systems/mechanisms/landing gear/ordnance components and systems selecting appropriate methods to validate or assess the design
  • Supports proposal preparation and new business development efforts.
  • Trains and coaches others.
  • Works under minimal direction

Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/Experience):
  • Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering, Engineering Technology (including Manufacturing Technology), Computer Science, Data Science, Mathematics, Physics or Chemistry.
  • 2+ years of related work experience
  • 2+ years of experience with Mechanical Systems
  • 2+ years of professional experience working in an engineering field
  • 2+ years of experience using Computer Aided Design (CAD) tools
  • 2+ years of experience working with cross-functional teams
  • Willing and able to travel 10% of the time domestically and internationally

Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience):
  • Level 3: 5 or more years' related work experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Level 4: 9 or more years' related work experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience
  • 5+ years of experience in aerospace related role
  • 5+ years of experience working in CATIA V5 & ENOVIA toolsets
  • 5+ years of experience reading and interpreting engineering drawings, procedures, and specifications
  • 5+ years of experience in a mechanical system, hydraulic fluid system, flight controls, flight deck and/or environmental controls systems engineering roles
  • 5+ years of demonstrated project management skills
  • Level 3/4 - Experience mentoring and developing others

Summary Pay Range Associate (Level 2): $85,000 - $115,000

Summary Pay Range Experienced (Level 3): $103,700 - $140,300

Summary Pay Range Senior (Level 4): $126,650 - $171,350
