Job Title: Senior Middleware Systems Administrator (Infrastructure & Automation)
Role Overview
We are seeking a seasoned, technically adept Senior Middleware Systems Administrator to design, maintain, and optimize the infrastructure supporting our most critical business applications. You will be the primary subject matter expert for our middleware layer, focusing on stability, scalability, and the proactive automation of routine tasks. This role bridges the gap between infrastructure operations and software development, requiring a balance of deep-dive troubleshooting and forward-thinking automation engineering.
This is a high-impact position for an engineer who thrives on ensuring "always-on" availability. You will lead disaster recovery planning, security configurations, and performance tuning, while mentoring junior staff and fostering a culture of technical excellence. Key Responsibilities
Middleware Administration & Support
Systems Lifecycle: Oversee the installation, configuration, security, and maintenance of enterprise-grade application server environments.
Operational Stability: Lead critical initiatives, including performance tuning, failover testing, disaster recovery planning, and certificate management.
Connectivity & Interop: Manage integration points between application servers and external services, including message queuing (MQ), secure file transfer, and backend database connectivity (Oracle/SQL).
Troubleshooting: Act as the final escalation point for complex technical issues; diagnose system bottlenecks and resolve performance degradation in production environments.
Automation & Infrastructure Engineering
Automation Strategy: Design and implement robust automation frameworks using Ansible, Python, and Shell scripting to eliminate manual toil.
CI/CD Integration: Collaborate with DevOps and Security teams to integrate middleware deployment into CI/CD pipelines (GitLab/XL-Deploy).
Framework Evolution: Continuously improve existing automation code for scalability, maintainability, and security compliance.
Documentation & Knowledge Sharing: Standardize operational procedures, document automation workflows, and mentor team members through code reviews and knowledge-sharing sessions.
Qualifications & Requirements
Minimum Qualifications
Education: Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field (or equivalent combination of training and experience).
Experience Baseline: Minimum of 5+ years of experience specializing in enterprise middleware/application server administration.
Technical Mastery:
oAdvanced Administration: Extensive experience managing enterprise application server clusters (installation, configuration, and security management).
oAutomation: Proficiency in Ansible and scripting languages (Python/Jython, Shell).
oSystems Engineering: Strong UNIX/Linux proficiency; hands-on experience with load balancing, junctions, and complex network security/certificate management.
Core Competencies: Exceptional troubleshooting and debugging skills; strong understanding of change management processes; ability to mentor and guide team members.
Preferred Attributes
Hands-on experience with newer, cloud-native application server architectures (e.g., Liberty profile or modernized containers).
Familiarity with Cloud infrastructure environments (AWS/Terraform).
Proven track record in CI/CD pipeline management and infrastructure-as-code (IaC) methodology.
Outstanding communication skills; able to translate complex technical blockers into actionable solutions for both technical partners and non-technical business stakeholders.
