Summary

Job Summary

General Atomics (GA), and its affiliated companies, is one of the world's leading resources for high-technology systems development ranging from the nuclear fuel cycle to remotely piloted aircraft, airborne sensors, and advanced electric, electronic, wireless and laser technologies.

General Atomics Electromagnetic Systems (GA-EMS) designs and manufactures first-of-a-kind electromagnetic and electric power generation systems. GA-EMS' expanding portfolio of specialized products and integrated system solutions support critical fleet, space systems and satellites, missile defense, power and energy, and process and monitoring applications for defense, industrial, and commercial customers worldwide.

We have an exciting opportunity for an Electrical Engineering (EE) Supervisor to join our Electrical Technologies Electrical Design and Prototyping team in Rancho Bernardo. We are seeking a hands-on technical leader with experience supporting engineering technicians, laboratory operations, and hardware development activities in a research and development environment. The successful candidate will support assembly, integration, troubleshooting, and test activities for advanced electrical and electromechanical systems while coordinating technician execution and engineering lab operations across multiple projects. This role works closely with engineering, program management, manufacturing, and technical teams supporting technologies including high-power electromagnetic systems, directed energy systems, advanced airborne sensors, space systems and satellites, and other advanced development programs within the GA-EMS portfolio.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Lead and support a team of engineering technicians, including work coordination, mentoring, technical guidance, and day-to-day execution support.
  • Coordinate technician staffing, task assignments, priorities, and workload balancing across multiple engineering projects and programs.
  • Support assembly, integration, troubleshooting, and test activities for advanced electrical and electromechanical systems.
  • Work closely with engineering teams to support prototype development, hardware bring-up, system integration, debug, and validation activities.
  • Support the operation, organization, maintenance, and continuous improvement of engineering laboratories, cleanrooms, and development workspaces.
  • Coordinate laboratory infrastructure, equipment maintenance, and workspace improvement activities supporting engineering development efforts.
  • Maintain a hands-on presence in hardware troubleshooting, integration, and engineering support activities as needed.
  • Interface with engineering, program management, manufacturing, suppliers, and technical staff to coordinate activities, communicate status, and resolve execution issues.
  • Help improve engineering support processes, lab operations, communication flow, and execution efficiency across projects and teams.
  • Ensure work is performed safely and in accordance with established engineering and operational procedures.

We recognize and appreciate the value and contributions of individuals with diverse backgrounds and experiences and welcome all qualified individuals to apply.

Job Qualifications

  • Typically requires a Bachelors, Masters or PhD in engineering or a related technical field as well as six or more years of progressively complex engineering experience. May substitute equivalent experience in lieu of education.
  • Demonstrated understanding of engineering principles, concepts, theory, and practice, along with experience coordinating technical staff and supporting troubleshooting and execution activities.
  • Prior leadership or supervisory experience is desirable, including task delegation, mentoring, performance feedback, and conflict resolution.
  • Experience coordinating workloads, priorities, and resources across multiple projects or programs is desirable.
  • Ability to work across engineering, program management, manufacturing, and technical teams while communicating effectively with each group's needs and priorities in mind.
  • Strong knowledge of hardware development processes including assembly, integration, troubleshooting, and testing.
  • Ability to interpret electrical schematics, engineering drawings, and technical specifications.
  • Experience troubleshooting and supporting complex electrical or electromechanical systems in an engineering or R&D environment.
  • Hands-on engineering involvement supporting the development, integration, troubleshooting, and test of complex electrical or electromechanical systems.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a DoD Security Clearance is required.
