Senior AWS Cloud Application Engineer (Python)Washington, DC | Full-Time Onsite | U.S. Citizenship Required by the federal government Position OverviewECCO Select is seeking a Senior AWS Cloud Application Engineer to support the development and modernization of enterprise applications within a secure AWS environment. This is a hands-on engineering role focused on building Python-based microservices, serverless applications, RESTful APIs, automated workflows, and cloud infrastructure using AWS CDK. The successful candidate will bring strong software engineering fundamentals combined with practical AWS cloud development experience. This individual will work across application development, Infrastructure as Code, automated testing, CI/CD, and technical design while collaborating with business and technical stakeholders to deliver scalable, maintainable cloud solutions. This is a full-time onsite position in Washington, DC. U.S. citizenship is required. Key Responsibilities- Design, develop, test, and maintain production-grade Python applications and microservices.
- Develop and manage AWS infrastructure using AWS Cloud Development Kit (CDK) and Infrastructure as Code practices.
- Design and implement complex business and application workflows using AWS Step Functions.
- Develop serverless applications utilizing AWS Lambda and related AWS services.
- Design, build, and maintain RESTful APIs, including appropriate versioning, error handling, and integration patterns.
- Build and support containerized applications using Docker.
- Implement application and infrastructure logging, monitoring, and audit capabilities using Amazon CloudWatch and AWS CloudTrail.
- Develop and maintain CI/CD pipelines supporting cloud application deployments across multiple environments.
- Write and maintain unit and integration tests and perform code remediation as needed.
- Conduct code reviews with an emphasis on maintainability, performance, security, and software engineering best practices.
- Utilize Git-based development workflows, including branching, merge requests, and peer reviews.
- Contribute to application and cloud architecture decisions and maintain supporting technical documentation.
- Collaborate with business stakeholders, architects, developers, and other technical teams to translate business requirements into effective technical solutions.
- Participate in an Agile SDLC environment, including iterative development, testing, deployment, and continuous improvement activities.
Required Qualifications- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related discipline, or equivalent relevant work experience.
- 7+ years of software development experience, including experience working within formal SDLC and Agile development environments.
- Strong, production-level Python development experience, including modern Python frameworks and testing libraries.
- Hands-on experience developing AWS infrastructure using AWS CDK.
- Experience developing cloud-based or serverless applications using AWS Lambda and AWS Step Functions.
- Hands-on experience creating and managing CI/CD pipelines for cloud applications.
- Strong understanding of RESTful API design, including service interfaces, versioning, integrations, and error handling.
- Experience with Git-based version control, including branching strategies, merge requests, and code reviews.
- Experience with core AWS technologies including DynamoDB, S3, API Gateway, CloudWatch, and CloudTrail.
- Experience developing or deploying containerized applications using Docker.
- Experience with Infrastructure as Code concepts and tools, including AWS CDK and Terraform.
- U.S. citizenship is required.
- Ability to work full-time onsite in Washington, DC.
Preferred Qualifications- Front-end development experience using Angular or React with TypeScript.
- Experience with additional AWS services such as SNS, SQS, Athena, AWS Glue, and Elastic Load Balancing.
- Experience supporting applications deployed across multiple cloud environments.
- Experience developing within GitLab and GitLab-based CI/CD environments.
- Strong technical documentation, troubleshooting, and cross-functional collaboration skills.
AI-Assisted Development Experience – PlusExperience incorporating AI-assisted development tools, such as Claude Code or comparable coding assistants, into the software development lifecycle is a plus. Relevant experience may include: - Code review and optimization.
- Documentation generation.
- Debugging and troubleshooting.
- Unit and integration test case development.
- Critically reviewing, validating, and adapting AI-generated code before incorporating it into production solutions.
