Job Title : SOW Paint Laboratory Technician and Project Support
Location: Materials Engineering Laboratory; New Holland, PA
Summary: Supports the Paint Specialist in the execution of technical paint testing, color development and brand color validation activities. Performs routine laboratory tests, documents data and maintains test equipment related to brand color development programs including Dynamic Blue and SSP. Provides supporting project communication, tracking and supplier follow up to ensure timely progress of color standards and material evaluations.
Responsibilities:
1. Prepare paint panels and samples for testing and evaluation.
2. Operate laboratory test equipment including color spectrophotometer, WOM, corrosion chambers, humidity cabinet, oven, and water immersion tanks under supervision of the Paint Specialist.
3. Perform routine tests for color, gloss, adhesion, corrosion, humidity and other paint performance attributes.
4. Record, organize and enter test data into laboratory systems and project files.
5. Monitor ongoing tests and document abnormalities or deviations.
6. Track incoming color standard requests and maintain accurate project status.
7. Send weekly color standard status updates to cross functional teams.
8. Follow up internal requests for missing or incomplete test request forms.
9. Contact suppliers to request timelines for submitted samples and materials.
10. Update paint project tracking forms with status and deadlines.
11. Maintain organized records of communications, test data and supplier responses.
12. Send standardized instructional emails and support communication for paint development workflows.
13. Assist with scheduling workload items and organizing test queues for the lab.
Qualifications:
1. Associate degree or technical school diploma in Engineering Technology, Materials Science, Chemistry or related field (Bachelor’s degree preferred).
2. 1 to 3 years of experience in a laboratory, testing environment or technical support role; paint or coatings experience preferred.
The preferred candidate will have experience with the following:
1. Experience with laboratory instruments such as spectrophotometers, corrosion chambers or environmental test equipment.
2. Good computer skills including Microsoft Office, SharePoint and Teams.
3. Strong written and verbal communication skills for coordination and follow-up.
4. Detail oriented with strong organizational and time management abilities.
