This position provides an opportunity to transition from other private, public, government or military experience to a 3M career.The Impact You'll Make in this RoleThe Senior SAP Commerce Cloud Architect will serve as a technical leader for end-to-end architecture, design, and implementation of 3M's SAP Commerce Cloud solution. This role partners closely with product management, infrastructure, and development teams to define scalable, reliable, and modern commerce capabilities that align with enterprise standards and support global digital initiatives.
Responsibilities: - Lead architecture, technical strategy, and solution design for SAP Commerce Cloud enhancements.
- Define and govern integration patterns across SAP and non-SAP systems, ensuring alignment with enterprise architecture frameworks.
- Provide hands-on technical leadership, including code-level guidance, peer reviews, and architectural governance.
- Assess new SAP Commerce Cloud features, extensions, accelerators, and best practices to improve performance, scalability, and maintainability.
- Partner with product owners, UX, security, and infrastructure teams to deliver consistent, secure, and user-centric digital experiences.
- Produce high-quality architecture artifacts including diagrams, technical specifications, EPIC-level solution designs, and implementation guidelines.
- Oversee complex technical issue resolution, performance tuning, and system scalability planning.
- Ensure adherence to DevOps, CI/CD, cloud deployment standards, and operational excellence practices.
- Support vendor management, technical due diligence, and evaluation of partner deliverables.
- Contribute to long-term platform modernization initiatives including composable architecture strategy, API-first design, and cloud-native commerce services.
Your Skills and ExpertiseTo set you up for success in this role from day one, 3M requires (at a minimum) the following qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering, or science field (completed and verified prior to start)
- Eight (8) years of experience in enterprise eCommerce platforms, including 5 five (5) years as an SAP Commerce (Hybris) architect in a private, public, government or military environment
Additional qualifications that could help you succeed even further in this role include:
- Strong experience designing and developing Java-based microservices using Spring Boot or equivalent frameworks.
- Proficiency in Java, Spring, RESTful services, and API design best practices
- Hands-on experience deploying and operating applications in AWS, including ECS/EKS, Lambda, API Gateway, CloudFormation, and cloud-native architecture patterns.
- SAP Commerce Cloud certifications.
- Experience with B2B and B2C commerce models.
- Knowledge of headless and composable commerce architectures, including API-first and MACH principles.
- Familiarity with modern frontend frameworks such as Angular or React.
- Strong understanding of SAP integration technologies (SAP ERP, S/4HANA, SAP BTP/Cloud Platform Integration, SAP Process Integration).
- Expertise in cloud-native architectures, event-driven integrations, and microservices design.
- Experience with modern DevOps practices, CI/CD pipelines, and cloud platforms (AWS, Azure).
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to articulate complex technical concepts to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Demonstrated ability to influence cross-functional teams and lead complex technical decision-making processes.
