Job Description: Day 2 Managed Services Engineer (Tanium & VMware)

Overview

We are seeking a highly skilled Day 2 Managed Services Engineer with deep expertise in Tanium endpoint management and VMware virtualization technologies. This role is responsible for ongoing operational support, optimization, troubleshooting, and lifecycle management of enterprise endpoint and virtualization platforms. Key Responsibilities

Tanium Platform Operations

- Maintain and optimize the Tanium platform, including module health, performance, and scalability.

- Monitor Tanium infrastructure components (Tanium Server, Zone Servers, Tanium Clients) and remediate issues proactively.

- Create, deploy, and validate Tanium packages, sensors, and queries.

- Manage patching workflows using Tanium Patch, ensuring compliance with customer SLAs and security baselines.

- Support Tanium modules such as:

- Core

- Deploy

- Patch

- Comply

- Discover

- Asset

- Impact

- Troubleshoot client communication issues, sensor failures, and content distribution problems.

- Maintain RBAC, content sets, and platform governance standards.

- Assist with reporting, dashboards, and compliance posture visibility.

VMware Platform Operations

- Provide Day 2 operational support for VMware vSphere environments, including ESXi hosts, vCenter, clusters, and resource pools.

- Monitor and remediate issues related to:

- VM performance

- Host capacity

- Storage and datastore utilization

- vMotion/DRS/HA events

- Perform VM lifecycle tasks: provisioning, resizing, snapshots, decommissioning.

- Apply ESXi patches and updates using Lifecycle Manager (formerly Update Manager).

- Troubleshoot host and VM issues including networking, storage connectivity, and performance anomalies.

- Support VMware technologies such as:

- vSphere

- vCenter

- Maintain documentation, runbooks, and operational standards.

General Managed Services Responsibilities

- Respond to incidents, service requests, and change requests within defined SLAs.

- Perform root cause analysis and implement long-term corrective actions.

- Participate in on-call rotation as required.

- Maintain accurate configuration and asset data.

- Collaborate with security, networking, and application teams to ensure platform alignment.

- Provide recommendations for platform improvements, capacity planning, and lifecycle upgrades.

- Support customer onboarding, environment assessments, and operational readiness activities.

Required Skills & Experience

- 3 7 years of experience in enterprise IT operations or managed services.

- Hands-on experience administering Tanium in a production environment.

- Strong understanding of VMware vSphere architecture and operations.

- Proficiency with Windows Server and Linux OS fundamentals.

- Familiarity with patch management, endpoint compliance, and configuration management.

- Experience with PowerShell or other scripting languages.

- Strong troubleshooting and analytical skills.

- Ability to communicate clearly with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.

Preferred Qualifications

- Tanium Certified Operator or Tanium Certified Administrator.

- VMware VCP certification.

- Experience with:

- Cisco UCS, Pure Storage

- CMDB/ITSM platforms (ServiceNow)

- Automation tools (Terraform)
