About the Role
A manufacturing organization is seeking a Sales Application Engineer for its Bedford Park, IL office (near Midway Airport). This role is ideal for a detail-oriented professional who thrives in a fast-paced, technical sales environment.
The Sales Application Engineer supports the sale of capital equipment, parts, and services across global industrial markets, including coatings, chemicals, food, cosmetics, and pharmaceuticals. The role serves as a technical resource throughout the sales cycle, working closely with customers to evaluate applications, propose solutions, and support equipment sales. Responsibilities also include customer site visits, lab testing, and post-sale technical support.
This is primarily an inside sales role and includes an approximately six-month onboarding and training period.
Responsibilities
- Work with existing and prospective customers to define application requirements and develop technical solutions
- Identify and pursue new sales opportunities; qualify applications and advance deals through the sales process
- Support inbound calls and emails; prepare budgetary and formal equipment quotes
- Create presentations and technical documentation for customer-facing efforts
- Set up, conduct, and document lab testing for customer applications
- Generate 2D and 3D CAD drawings for proposed equipment configurations
- Travel to customer sites and trade shows as needed (approx. 10 20%)
- Troubleshoot and resolve issues with installed equipment
- Support R&D and provide technical input for marketing initiatives as needed
- Develop strong knowledge of products and sales processes
- Spend part of onboarding (approx. 2 3 months) working with production and engineering teams
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering (Mechanical preferred) or a related technical field
- 2 4 years of experience in technical sales, applications engineering, or similar roles preferred
- Strong communication skills with the ability to explain technical concepts clearly
- Self-directed with strong organizational and time management skills
- Proficient in Microsoft Office or similar tools
- Experience with 2D/3D CAD software (SolidWorks, AutoCAD preferred)
- Ability to collaborate effectively across sales, engineering, and customer teams
