Summary

We are seeking an experienced Network Engineer to support a Department of Defense global network modernization effort focused on eliminating legacy TDM infrastructure and migrating services to Ethernet-based transport across the DoDIN/DISN.
This role emphasizes site-level engineering, circuit migration, and decommissioning activities in complex environments that include fiber optic transport, circuit emulation technologies, and legacy SONET/Promina platforms. The position works closely with government stakeholders, engineering teams, and implementation partners to support secure, highly available enterprise transport networks.

Key Responsibilities

  • Identify, design, and implement strategies to eliminate legacy interfaces (e.g., RS-232, RS-530, SONET) and migrate services to Ethernet
  • Engineer and support removal of Optical Digital Cross Connects (ODXC), Multi-Service Provisioning Platforms (MSPP), and ADTRAN multiplexers
  • Design and implement circuit emulation solutions to translate TDM traffic to Ethernet
  • Produce site-specific engineering deliverables, including:
    • Circuit emulation requirements
    • Target architectures and Ethernet migration approaches
    • J-PE connectivity
    • Equipment configurations and build-out documentation
  • Identify network dependencies such as bandwidth upgrades, port capacity requirements, and transport constraints
  • Develop Methods of Procedure (MOPs), transition plans, and cutover priorities
  • Provide engineering support to provisioning and implementation teams during migrations
  • Conduct site surveys and develop Bills of Material (power, grounding, racks, cabling, DCN, etc.)
  • Analyze technical requirements, identify design gaps, and propose Courses of Action
  • Support planning and engineering of advanced transport networks using modern, secure technologies
  • Prepare and deliver technical briefings, participate in engineering reviews, and support configuration validation
  • Track schedules and milestones, identify risks, and coordinate with internal and external stakeholders
  • Maintain architecture diagrams and support development of long-term Ethernet services and operations strategies
  • Support DISN IP Optimization and related integration efforts as an experienced engineering resource

Required Qualifications

  • 7+ years of hands-on network engineering experience in large enterprise or service provider environments
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field (or equivalent experience)
  • Strong experience with transport and WAN technologies, including:
    • TDM
    • SONET/SDH
    • Ethernet
  • Practical experience with circuit emulation devices and serial-to-IP adaptation technologies
  • Demonstrated experience engineering and implementing site-level network changes, including device selection, configurations, documentation, and cutover support
  • Proficiency with routing and switching technologies (e.g., BGP, OSPF, MPLS, QoS)
  • Experience integrating transport solutions with Provider Edge (PE/J-PE) routers
  • Experience conducting site surveys and developing Bills of Material for network deployments
  • Strong documentation and diagramming skills (e.g., Visio)
  • Ability to prepare and present technical briefings to government and technical leadership
  • Ability to work on-site at Fort Meade, MD or Scott AFB, IL
  • Active Secret security clearance (Top Secret preferred)

Work Environment

  • On-site work at DoD facilities
  • Collaborative environment with government, prime contractors, and subcontractor teams
  • Mission-critical network modernization initiatives
