Network Engineering – Tait Radio (Hybrid)

Our client, a local distribution company that currently provides natural gas service to approximately two million people in Oregon and Southwest Washington, is looking for a Network Engineering – Tait Radio resource for their Portland, Oregon location. They are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Tait Radio Engineer to join their growing team. The ideal candidate will possess a deep understanding of Tait Communications products and technologies, with a proven track record in the design, installation, configuration, and troubleshooting of complex radio systems. Be instrumental in ensuring the optimal performance and reliability of our clients'' communication networks.

Key Responsibilities for Network Engineering – Tait Radio:

  • System Design & Architecture: Collaborate with clients and internal teams to understand communication requirements and design Tait radio solutions, including DMR, MPT-IP, and conventional systems. This includes creating system diagrams, equipment lists, and technical specifications.
  • Installation & Commissioning: Lead and execute the physical installation, wiring, and power-up of Tait base stations, repeaters, antennas, and associated infrastructure. Perform system commissioning, acceptance testing, and handover to clients.
  • Configuration & Programming: Configure and program Tait radio equipment, including subscriber radios, base stations, and network controllers, using Tait software tools (e.g., Tait System Management, DMR Administrator, Enable Fleet).
  • Troubleshooting & Support: Diagnose and resolve complex technical issues related to Tait radio systems, including RF performance, network connectivity, and software anomalies. Provide ongoing technical support to clients, both on-site and remotely.
  • RF Optimization: Conduct site surveys, perform RF coverage analysis, and optimize radio network performance to ensure reliable and efficient communication.
  • Documentation & Reporting: Maintain accurate and detailed documentation of system configurations, network diagrams, troubleshooting procedures, and project progress. Generate reports as required.
  • Training & Mentoring: Provide technical guidance and training to junior engineers and clients on Tait radio systems and best practices.
  • Client Relationship Management: Build and maintain strong relationships with clients, ensuring their satisfaction with our services and solutions.
  • Staying Current: Continuously research and stay up-to-date with the latest Tait product releases, software updates, and industry trends.

Requirements/Qualifications for Network Engineering – Tait Radio:

  • Bachelor''s degree in Electrical Engineering, Telecommunications, or a related field (or equivalent practical experience).
  • Minimum of 10 years of experience (e.g., 5+ years) working directly with Tait Communications radio systems.
  • In-depth knowledge of Tait product lines, including:
  • Tait DMR (Tier 2 & Tier 3)
  • Tait MPT-IP
  • Tait Conventional systems
  • Strong understanding of radio frequency (RF) principles, including:
  • Antenna theory and propagation
  • RF test equipment (spectrum analyzers, power meters, network analyzers)
  • RF safety standards
  • Proficiency with Tait software tools for system management, configuration, and diagnostics.
  • Experience with IP networking concepts, including TCP/IP, routing, and switching, as they relate to radio systems.
  • Excellent troubleshooting and problem-solving skills with a methodical approach.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to explain complex technical concepts clearly
