Job Details

We are seeking a hands-on Controller who can bridge the gap between accounting and operations. This individual will oversee the company's core accounting function while serving as a strategic business partner to the General Manager, operational leaders, and corporate finance team.

This is not a role focused solely on producing financial statements. The Controller will be expected to understand what is driving the numbers, identify trends and variances, ask the right questions, and work directly with operational leadership to turn financial information into actionable business insights.

Responsibilities include:

Lead month-end and year-end close processes

Maintain general ledger accuracy and oversee financial reporting

Prepare financial statements and management reporting

Analyze actual results against budget and identify key business drivers

Lead annual budgeting and support ongoing forecasting

Partner with operations and service leadership on financial and operational performance

Oversee balance sheet reconciliations, accruals, prepaids, fixed assets, AP, AR, and cost-related accounting

Support inventory accounting and related analysis

Maintain and strengthen internal controls, accounting procedures, and best practices

Identify opportunities for process improvement, automation, and workflow efficiency

Support accounting systems and technology enhancements

Provide coaching and guidance to an established accounting team

Participate in strategic planning and business decision-making

Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, or related field

5+ years of progressive accounting experience

Previous accounting leadership or supervisory experience

Strong understanding of month-end close, financial reporting, budgeting, forecasting, and variance analysis

Ability to effectively partner with operational and non-financial leaders

Strong analytical skills with the ability to identify the story behind the numbers

Advanced Excel skills and strong overall systems proficiency

Experience with Sage Intacct or similar accounting/ERP systems preferred

ServiceTitan experience is a plus

HVAC, construction, mechanical contracting, field services, or another operationally intensive industry is highly preferred

Exposure to inventory and/or cost accounting preferred

Comfortable leveraging technology, automation, and emerging AI tools

Strong communication, organization, and problem-solving skills

This position is onsite five days per week in Rochester, NY, with typical hours of 7:30 AM-4:30 PM.
