Heavy Civil Project Engineer - Highway and Bridge

A heavy civil highway and bridge contractor with projects across Florida is hiring a Project Engineer for its St. Petersburg office in the Tampa Bay area. The role owns the engineering and project controls side of heavy civil highway work, much of it for FDOT, supporting the Project Manager and Project Superintendent. That includes scheduling, quantities, costs, subcontractor pricing, billing, and document control. The position offers a career track into project management.
Schedule
Full-time, based in the St. Petersburg office, with regular time on project sites in the Tampa Bay area.
Compensation
$95,000 to $130,000 base salary, plus project bonus potential.
What You\'ll Do
You will review the contract and specifications in full at the start of each project, and support the Project Manager and Project Superintendent with day-to-day project needs. You will prepare and update the project schedule in Primavera P6, and track quantities, costs, and forecasts.
You will get pricing from subcontractors and vendors, including for change orders, and coordinate subcontractors, suppliers, and crews to resolve field conflicts. You will support monthly billing, cash flow projections, and change order processing. You will also review HeavyJob daily reports for accuracy.
You will run document control for submittals, contract documents, and record drawings. You will keep NPDES permits, the SWPPP, environmental inspections, survey staking, and joint quantity measurements with the owner on track.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor\'s degree in civil engineering
- 5+ years of experience in civil construction, including both office and field roles
- Experience managing multiple activities at once on heavy civil projects
- Experience with project scheduling, quantity tracking, and cost forecasting
- Proficiency with Primavera P6, Excel, and Word
- Based in the Tampa Bay area, or willing to relocate
Preferred Qualifications
- Construction engineering and management emphasis in your degree
- FDOT project experience
- HCSS HeavyJob experience
- Experience with NPDES permits and SWPPP compliance
- FDOT Advanced Maintenance of Traffic (MOT) or CTQP certification
- Florida Stormwater, Erosion and Sedimentation Control Inspector certification
- OSHA 30-Hour Construction certification
