Job Description

If you want to make a significant impact as an Orientation & Mobility Specialist (O&M) in a School in California, this position might be what you are looking for!


Responsibilities:

  • Conduct orientation and mobility assessments for students with visual impairments
  • Develop and implement mobility goals as part of the student s IEP
  • Teach safe travel skills, spatial awareness, and use of mobility aids (e.g., long cane)
  • Collaborate with teachers, staff, and families to support student independence
  • Participate in IEP meetings and maintain required documentation


Qualifications:

  • Certification as an Orientation & Mobility Specialist (COMS) issued by the National Blindness Professional Certification Board
  • National Orientation and Mobility Certification (NOMC) issued by the National Blindness Professional Certification Board
  • Orientation & Mobility Specialist Certification (PK 12)
  • Teacher of the Visually Impaired (TVI) endorsement with O&M specialization
  • Special Education certification with O&M authorization
  • Ability to work effectively in a School setting
  • Strong communication, time management, and clinical decision-making skills


Preferred Skills and Qualifications

  • One or more years of experience in a School setting
  • Familiarity with electronic documentation systems
  • Demonstrated commitment to professional growth and patient-centered care
