Job Description:

Are you passionate about how digital learning experiences are designed, built, and continuously improved? Can you build persistent AI workflows, custom tools, and structured knowledge bases that scale across academic programs? Do you enjoy working with academic leaders to translate their expertise into innovative, AI-augmented student experiences? Then apply today for this AI Learning Solutions Architect opportunity!

ASU EdPlus is a dynamic unit of Arizona State University focused on the design and scalable delivery of digital teaching and learning models to increase student success and reduce barriers to achievement in higher education. We advance the economic, social, cultural, and overall health of the local, national, and international communities served by ASU.

Want to know more about working at EdPlus? Check out the EdPlus website for more details about us.

We are seeking an AI Learning Solutions Architect to join our innovative Digital Learning team. As a senior practitioner, every day you will make a difference in the lives of others by focusing on how learning experiences are designed, built, and continuously improved across ASU's digital curriculum. You will start upstream of content, with the problem itself. Before designing anything, you will investigate whether the stated problem is the real problem and determine what kind of intervention will move the needle, recognizing that the right answer may not be a course at all.

You are an AI capability builder: not just someone who uses AI well, but someone who creates the persistent AI infrastructure that makes the entire team more capable over time. You build AI agents and automations, internal tools and dashboards, evaluation systems, structured knowledge bases, and reusable skills and plugins that encode pedagogical expertise into assets the team can use across projects. In short: you build the tools, you teach the people, and you leave behind systems that keep running without you.

You will work within a highly collaborative, cross-functional studio model, designing alongside data scientists, user experience researchers, product managers, instructional designers, engineering teams, and visionary faculty. You will partner across disciplines to build the learning architecture that transforms the design and delivery of education at scale.

Essential Duties:

Learning Architecture & Systems Design
  • Architect modular, scaffolded digital learning experiences engineered for continuous optimization and measurable student growth.
  • Translate cognitive load theory, retrieval practice, and constructive alignment into concrete, reusable design patterns.
  • Establish documented architectural standards that elevate quality and consistency across all digital learning programs.

AI-Augmented Design & Orchestration
  • Build and run multi-agent AI workflows for needs analysis, content generation, and prototype stress-testing.
  • Develop system prompts, prompt libraries, and skill files that embed pedagogical standards into automated tools.
  • Structure knowledge bases that AI systems can query to generate and refine downstream learning assets.
  • Train instructional designers on systematic AI integration to accelerate the shift from content production to learning architecture.

Faculty Partnership & Design Leadership
  • Partner directly with faculty to co-design AI-augmented courses that preserve academic voice and improve student persistence.
  • Lead rapid prototyping workshops that transform faculty expertise into working digital learning assets in hours.
  • Document successful design patterns and case studies to demonstrate the measurable impact of learning architecture.
  • Assume or coordinate other duties or projects as assigned or directed.

NOTE: This is an in-person, hybrid position. You must be able to reliably commute to Scottsdale AZ.

Desired Qualifications:

  • Master's degree in Learning Sciences, Educational Technology, Human-Computer Interaction (HCI), Information Systems, or a closely related field.
  • Evidence of 2+ years building low-code/no-code AI workflows, system prompts, agents, or automated tools for professional use.
  • Experience structuring knowledge repositories and databases for AI retrieval and content generation.
  • Evidence of 5+ years designing digital learning, with at least 2 years managing program-level architecture.
  • Demonstrated ability to evaluate AI-generated content for pedagogical soundness using learning science principles.
  • Proven success partnering with higher education faculty or subject matter experts to drive curriculum innovation.
  • Experience coaching or training non-technical teams on integrating new AI tools into daily workflows.
  • One to two examples of your work, such as system prompts, workflow architecture diagrams, low-code tool demos, or knowledge base structures, may be required.

NOTE: Please answer the following questions in your cover letter:
  • Describe an AI tool, workflow, or asset you built that colleagues continued using after handoff. What made it stick?
  • Describe a time you rejected AI-generated instructional content that looked good on the surface. What was wrong pedagogically, and how did you identify it?
