Asthma Educator

Summary:

The Respiratory Care Coordinator ? Asthma provides inpatient, outpatient and community-based education and orientation for individuals in assigned areas of responsibility.


Responsibilities:

1.\tSupports the goals and objectives of the organization and the division.

2.\tCollaborates with the Nurse Manager, staff, patients, and families to assess learning needs.

3.\tPlans and implements educational activities to meet identified learning needs, utilizing adult and child education principles.

4.\tDevelops and utilizes appropriate evaluation systems to determine effectiveness of educational activities.

5.\tPromotes collaborative relationships among health care professionals and community agencies and schools.

6.\tPrioritizes, coordinates, and implements care for assigned patients within scope of practice, utilizing appropriate resources.

7.\tProvides and assists with direct patient care which reflects a family centered approach.

8.\tParticipates in committees, task forces, meetings and activities to assist in the development of educational programs, ultimately resulting in improved care and patient/family education.

9.\tParticipates in activities that promote professional development and enhance the practice of respiratory care and asthma education.

10.\tFacilitates compliance with the mandatory educational requirements of the unit, department, and the organization.

11.\tDemonstrates the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care for the physical, psychological, social, educational, and safety needs of the patients served regardless of age.

12.\tOther duties as required.


Other information:

Technical Expertise
1.\tExperience in planning, implementing, executing and evaluating education is required.

2.\tStrong communication skills, both verbal and written coupled with excellent presentation skills are required.

3.\tAbility to work well under pressure to prioritize and complete required tasks and responsibilities in a timely and accurate manner.

4.\tStrong organizational skills are required.

5.\tExperience in healthcare is required.

6.\tExperience working with various levels within an organization is preferred.

7.\tExperience working in Microsoft Office (Outlook, Excel, Word) or similar software is required.

8.\tExperience working with an electronic medical record system (i.e. EPIC) or similar software is preferred.

Education and Experience
1.\tEducation: Graduate from an accredited school of respiratory care is required.

2.\tCertification: Professional Respiratory Therapist licensed in the state of Ohio is required.

3.\tAsthma Education-Certified (AE-C) is required within one year from date of hire.

4.\tBasic Life Support (BLS) certification from the American Heart Association is required.

5.\tNeonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP), Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS), and Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certifications are preferred.

6.\tYears of relevant experience: Minimum of 3 years of relevant experience is preferred.

7.\tYears of supervisory experience: None.
