Job Summary

Internal Promotion

PURPOSE:

Develop, implement, and support automated manufacturing systems in Flex's state-of-the art 24x7 Buffalo Grove, IL manufacturing site.

PRINCIPLE ACCOUNTABILITIES/DUTIES:
  • Lead a factory process engineering team including engineers and technicians for the Flex Buffalo Grove Facility
  • Take leadership of factory engineering projects and process improvements, from concept to through production release
  • Manage and deploy engineering and technician resources to support a highly automated 24/7 production operation.
  • Define, develop, and deploy processes and improvements as required.
  • Develop process requirements and specifications.
  • Develop budgets, engineering resource plans and schedules for projects.
  • Drive engineering team to troubleshoot equipment and process issues.
  • Manage automation suppliers through all phases of projects.
  • Manage equipment changes and upgrades.
  • Assist validation team with qualification protocols and support equipment qualification activities.
  • Attend customer meetings at all levels of discussions, getting customer inputs and presenting Flex manufacturing solutions, etc.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Support pFMEA review and analysis and provide detailed recommendations.
  • Interface with customer technical and executive leadership as needed.
  • Report line performance and project status to customers and Flex management.
  • Drive standards, best practices, and SOPs for the engineering group.
  • Drive team to meet manufacturing KPIs such as OEE, Yield, Scrap and Downtime

REQUIRED (MUST-HAVE) QUALIFICATIONS:
  • BS/ MS Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering - or - equivalent experience (see below)
  • Experience with implementation and support of high-speed assembly systems (>20ppm), required.
  • Minimum 7 years related experience from a highly regulated technology-based company/industry (e.g. medical devices, machine building/equipment manufacturing, automotive, defense/aerospace, pharmaceutical, etc.), where a mix of automated and manual assembly techniques is utilized.
  • Minimum 2 years of experience leading an engineering team, e.g. manufacturing, automation, process, and/or mechanical - preferably in a 24x7 manufacturing / production environment.
  • People leadership experience must include hire-fire experience, delegating workloads, mentoring/coaching/career development, disciplinary action, etc.
  • Industrial Engineering experience working in both HMLV (High Mix Low Volume) and LMHV (Low Mix High Volume) assembly processes.
  • Experience supporting any of the following automation systems and tools: robotics, Vision Systems (Cognex, Keyence), material handling, ASRS, Conveyors, PLC, HMI, Pick-Place-Pack, Inspection/Test methods.
  • Knowledge of Layout, Tooling/Fixturing, Demand Flow, Cell Concept and Lean Manufacturing and Simulation tools.
  • Experience with medical or equivalent validation activities in any would be ideal: FAT (Functional Acceptance Testing), SAT (Site Acceptance Testing), IQ, OQ, PQ, Test Scripts, MSA (Measurement System Analysis), Process Development.
  • Excellent communication (verbal and written), interpersonal and organizational skills are musts.

Pay Range (Applicable to Illinois)
