Overview

We are seeking a Workday Payroll & Financials Lead to join a leading East Coast healthcare organization on a contract-to-hire basis. This role will play a critical part in driving end-to-end Workday solutions across Payroll and Financials, ensuring scalable, compliant, and efficient system design and operations.

This is a hands-on functional leadership role requiring deep configuration expertise, strong stakeholder management skills, and the ability to lead complex initiatives across Finance, Payroll, and IT.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead end-to-end functional design and delivery across Workday Payroll and Financials (requirements, configuration, testing, and deployment readiness)
  • Own Payroll configuration, including pay groups, earnings/deductions, calculation rules, retro processing, parallel testing, and payroll controls
  • Drive Workday Financials configuration, including FDM/worktag governance, accounting rules, journals, AP, Expenses, and close-readiness controls
  • Manage Payroll-to-GL integration, including costing, mapping, reconciliation, controls, and issue resolution
  • Partner cross-functionally with Finance, Payroll, IT, and implementation partners (SI) to align business and technical solutions
  • Establish and maintain strong governance practices, including change control, release management, documentation, and audit/compliance readiness

Required Qualifications (Non-Negotiable)
  • Active Workday Financials (FIN) Certification (must be current and verifiable)
  • Active Workday HCM Certification (required)
  • Proven, hands-on Workday Payroll experience with direct ownership of system configuration (not payroll-adjacent)
  • Strong, recent Workday Financials experience with ownership of design and configuration decisions
  • Demonstrated experience managing end-to-end Payroll-to-General Ledger processes
  • Ability to clearly articulate configuration decisions and system design ownership
