Location and Remote Work
Candidates must reside within driving distance to Madison, WI. All staff have flexibility to work remotely but are required to have a weekly presence in Madison, Wisconsin. Onsite frequency is dependent on candidate distance from Madison. Relocation reimbursement is available to candidates relocating to Dane County, Wisconsin.
- Madison, WI (within 50-mile radius): 3x per week in Madison office
- Chicago, IL / outside Madison area: 1x per week/4x per month in Madison office
Overview
This role offers the opportunity to lead and shape technology platforms supporting sophisticated institutional investment strategies. The Lead Investment Systems Engineer will play a critical role in ensuring trading systems remain resilient, optimized, and aligned with the evolving needs of investment professionals while leading a highly skilled engineering team.
- The Lead Investment Systems Engineer will lead and manage a Business Systems Engineering team responsible for the availability, stability, and operational excellence of the organization s front- and middle-office investment systems, with a primary focus on the Charles River Investment Management System (CRIMS/CRD).
- You will own and continuously improve the production support operating model, including on-call rotations, escalation paths, coverage models, and workload distribution, ensuring sustainability and resilience.
- In this key role, you will act as the senior escalation point for incidents and production issues, coordinating across L1 L3 support teams, vendors, and business stakeholders.
- Your responsibility will be to ensure robust monitoring, alerting, and incident response capabilities are in place for Charles River and all integrated, trading-critical applications.
What You Bring to the Role
- Bachelor's degree in Information Systems, Computer Science, Finance, or a related field.
- 8+ years of experience in investment management technology, particularly supporting or implementing OMS platforms.
- Strong experience with Charles River Investment Management System (CRIMS/CRD)
- Demonstrated experience leading technical or production support teams, including incident management and escalation frameworks.
- Deep functional and technical understanding of Order Management Systems (OMS) and Investment Management Systems (IMS).
- Knowledge of trading workflows, compliance processes, allocations, and investment operations.
- Experience integrating with platforms such as Bloomberg, FactSet, Aladdin, SimCorp, Eagle, and custodians such as BNY Mellon.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to document and explain complex platform configurations and system designs.
- Proven ability to collaborate across Trading, Operations, Compliance, and Technology teams.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to design scalable technology solutions.
- Demonstrated commitment to quality assurance, risk management, and continuous improvement.
What You'll Do
- Lead a 24x6 Business Systems Engineering team responsible for the availability, stability, and operational excellence of front- and middle-office investment systems.
- Own the production support operating model, including on-call rotations, escalation procedures, workload distribution, and coverage models.
- Ensure strong monitoring, alerting, and incident response capabilities across Charles River and integrated trading systems.
- Serve as the senior escalation point for major incidents, coordinating with internal teams, vendors, and business stakeholders.
- Lead incident management, root cause analysis (RCA), and problem management processes to drive continuous improvement.
- Establish and maintain runbooks, SOPs, and operational documentation to enable consistent and repeatable support outcomes.
- Own and lead business continuity and disaster recovery planning for critical investment systems.
- Serve as the platform owner and subject matter expert for Charles River, ensuring configurations, enhancements, and upgrades are production-ready and resilient.
- Lead configuration management, integrations, workflows, and release management while minimizing operational and trading risk.
- Define and enforce testing, validation, and deployment standards for system releases and production changes.
- Identify and mitigate platform, architectural, or integration risks that could impact trading or investment operations.
- Mentor and develop a high-performing engineering team, fostering accountability, ownership, and operational excellence.
- Partner closely with Trading, Portfolio Management, Operations, Compliance, and Technology teams to align technology capabilities with business needs.
- Maintain strong vendor relationships, particularly with Charles River, supporting issue resolution and platform roadmap planning.
- Communicate clearly with business and technology leadership during incidents, outages, and major platform changes.
Compensation and Employment
This position requires US work authorization without need for current or future visa sponsorship. The expected base salary for this position is $130,000 - $160,000 per year, depending on experience and qualifications. Our client offers an excellent bonus plan and a full comprehensive benefits package.
