Lead Programmer Analyst

Description

We are looking for a Lead Programmer Analyst to join a contract assignment supporting payment technology initiatives. This role is suited for a senior software specialist who can guide development efforts, translate business needs into dependable technical solutions, and help deliver projects on schedule. The position combines hands-on programming with team leadership, requiring strong judgment, clear communication, and a focus on quality in both online and batch processing environments.

Responsibilities:

1. Provides designs for proposed systems and system enhancements. Develops modifications and changes to existing programs and procedures as required to satisfy user requests.

2. Supplements coding, testing, and documenting computer programs where necessary to achieve results and meet schedules.

3. Leads and mentors team members on assigned projects and implementations.

4. Ensures programs and procedures developed by team adhere to established departmental standards and guidelines.

5. Helps CIS keep commitments to clients with on time completion of development teams projects.

6. Develops project cost estimates for assigned clients.

7. Reports progress through updates to project control system status and time recording and attendance at weekly project control meetings.

8. Notifies manager immediately when it appears schedule dates will not be met or if an assigned project will lead to operational or support difficulties.

9. Suggests potential improvements to the processes and techniques used by Client Programming that will result in improved quality and/or responsiveness for our clients.

10. Interacts with project requestors to ensure correct understanding and business validity of user requests and demonstrates results to requestors of projects.

11. Advises less experienced programmers and provides training by sharing technical knowledge with others.

12. Solves balancing problems.

13. Performs other duties as assigned.

Requirements

SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:

1. Ability to write and explain structured and maintainable COBOL code.

2. Proficiency with all Tandem utility programs.

3. Ability to modify and create SCOBOL on-line programs required.

4. Ability to develop complex on-line and batch programs.

5. Ability to design operationally in a manner that is reliable and efficient.

MINIMUM LEVEL OF PREPARATION AND TRAINING NORMALLY REQUIRED:

1. A bachelor's degree in computer science or related field or equivalent work experience.

2. 5+ years of COBOL programming experience.

3. 5+ years of increasingly complex project development experience
