Who You Will Report To: Staff Lead Systems Engineer

American National is seeking a Systems Engineer II to help keep our server platforms reliable, secure, and ready for business operations. You will provide hands-on support for our hybrid infrastructure environments, with responsibility for operating systems, infrastructure automation, configuration management, vulnerability remediation, and recovery. We are looking for someone who can troubleshoot quickly and thoroughly, partner well across teams, and improve how work gets done through standardization and automation.

What You'll Do
  • Administer server operating systems, middleware, and web/business applications, including installation, upgrades, patching, and lifecycle maintenance
  • Troubleshoot operating system(s), web application engine, and distributed middleware issues during and after business hours, drive issues to resolution and document outcomes
  • Partner with Application Development and Network Security to improve performance, availability, and security posture; provide subject matter expertise as needed
  • Review vulnerability assessments and implement remediations in coordination with the Network Security team; prioritize and schedule remediation work with asset owners
  • Participate as the infrastructure technical representative for new application installations and projects involving supported systems
  • Use scripting and automation tools to standardize, streamline, and automate builds and support processes
  • Create, maintain, and improve technical documentation and operating procedures for supported systems
  • Support disaster recovery planning, testing, and recovery activities
  • Contribute to enterprise management of the on-site data center/server environment
  • Work with enterprise certificate management platforms (e.g., Venafi or equivalent) to support certificate discovery, issuance, renewal, and policy enforcement
Qualifications
  • Associate degree in IT or a related field (or equivalent experience)
  • 3+ years of experience in systems engineering, infrastructure, or related roles
  • Strong working knowledge of Windows Server and/or Linux administration
  • Strong understanding of LDAP/Active Directory concepts (user/group management, Group Policy, permissions, etc.).
  • Excellent troubleshooting, root-cause analysis, and problem-resolution skills
  • Ability to participate in a 24/7 on-call rotation and respond to a wide range of hardware and software issues
  • Experience automating manual processes with PowerShell, Ansible, or similar scripting/automation tools
What Will Set You Apart
  • Relevant certifications (e.g., MCSE or equivalent)
  • Experience with formal change-management processes and maintenance best practices
  • Working knowledge of core networking concepts and protocols (TCP/IP, subnetting, DNS, DHCP, HTTP/HTTPS, SMTP, etc.)
  • Experience with common infrastructure/security toolsets such as CrowdStrike, Tenable.sc, Red Hat Satellite, SCCM, SCOM, and Azure
  • Understanding of PKI and enterprise certificate management
