Job Title: Database Administrator Location: Plano, TX- Remote but MUST live in Dallas, TX Duration: Direct Hire or Contract-to-Hire (must be willing to convert after 2.3 months)
The hiring manager has been interviewing candidates, but most have come from larger commercial environments with highly segmented teams. As a result, their experience tends to be more narrowly focused strong in certain areas such as database installation and maintenance, or SSIS, or SSRS but with limited exposure to performance tuning, compliance, or automation. While their resumes appear strong on paper, the interviews have revealed gaps in the broader skill set they re looking for.
Ideally, they d like someone who not only has solid database expertise but can also work with APIs and perform data entry and extraction tasks beyond basic SSRS reporting (which he noted tends to be a more junior-level skill set).
About the Role
GTS Technology is seeking an experienced and results-driven Database Administrator to support and manage district-wide database systems and enterprise integrations. The ideal candidate will ensure optimal database performance, availability, integrity, and security across multiple environments. This role is responsible for developing database architecture, implementing automation, supporting data warehousing initiatives, and troubleshooting database issues in alignment with organizational goals.
Key Responsibilities
Manage and support enterprise database systems to ensure high availability, security, and performance.
Configure and maintain SQL Server databases, including installation, upgrades, backup/recovery, and performance tuning.
Partner with application and data teams to design database architectures and implement modernization plans.
Develop, maintain, and monitor ETL processes, including data warehouse integrations, SSIS packages, and third-party interfaces.
Manage data loads, user access, and integration of the data warehouse platform for BI and reporting systems.
Monitor query and job performance; tune queries, stored procedures, and functions for optimization.
Support ITIL-based processes such as Incident, Change, and Problem Management.
Document all system configurations, data flow diagrams, and integration details.
Research and implement emerging database technologies and industry best practices.
Perform after-hours support, system upgrades, and special projects as needed.
Qualifications Education/Certification:
Bachelor s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related field (preferred).
Microsoft SQL Server certifications (preferred).
Experience:
5+ years of hands-on experience as a SQL Server Database Administrator.
5+ years of Windows Server administration, tuning, and troubleshooting experience.
Proficiency with backup/restore operations, schedulers, and automation tools.
Experience using SDLC and Agile methodologies.
Strong understanding of High Availability concepts (Always-On, Clustering, Database Mirroring, etc.).
Skills:
Expertise in database architecture, application development, data modeling, and data warehousing.
Ability to extract, connect, and transform data from multiple sources for business intelligence and analytics.
Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills with attention to detail.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Ability to manage multiple priorities and build effective working relationships across teams.
