TITLE: Design Technologist

EST START DATE: Feb 2, 2026

CONTRACT LENGTH: 8 months, potential to extend based on performance

LOCATION: Fully onsite in Seattle, WA

TRAVEL: Potential to travel between the building and the lab (5 miles away)

HOURS: Mon-Fri, 9a-5p PST, hours are dependent on when cohorts and testers are scheduled, which may fall outside of standard hours. Potential for OT with manager permission, not expected to work holidays

PAY RANGE: $65-70/hr

WHAT TEAM IS THIS CONTRACTOR PART OF?

- UX design team

- Primarily a grocery group focused on in-store digital experiences

TEAM FOCUS / KEY PROJECTS: Creating new experiences that intersect digita, physical product, and retail experiences.

TEAM STRUCTURE:

- Team is split between Boston and Seattle

- Works cross-functionally, customer-focused team

- Engages with end users

WHY IS THIS POSITION OPEN? New role

WHAT IS THIS CONTRACTOR SPECIFICALLY DOING?

- Catching up with the Seattle manager daily

- Getting feedback on what needs to be focused on that day/week

- What next testing event will be, what will be learned

- What software will need to be developed

- Helping prioritize where to focus

- Heads down focused on hardware/software

In lab expectations:

- Resource must be a utility player

- Will work with testers (manage NDA signatures) and help moderators

- Set up recording equipment

- Work behind the scenes, supporting events for software that create realistic environmetns for testers, download/upload recordings, use Generative AI to accelerate workflow

- x3-4 week sprints (understanding goal, working heads down, and supporting testing)

MAIN QUALIFICATIONS:

1. Front-end coding / front-end capability

2. Stitch together digital hardware

3. Software experience

- Looking for a Design Technologist (DT) vs a typical SDE. They must be versed in creating software / hardware solutions and iterative experimentation.

- Available online portfolio

- Experience developing visually polished, engaging, multi-user UX prototypes

- Coding samples in front end programming languages

- Deep knowledge of mobile prototyping using HTML/CSS/JS and Swift for iOS

- 3+ years of front-end technologist, engineer, or UX prototyping experience

- Experience using GenAI tools like Claude Code, Cline, Codex or similar

- Experience collaborating with UX, Product, and technical partner

PREFERRED REQUIREMENTS:

1. Background in physical (real-world) and digital hybrid interaction design

2. Strong understanding of software architecture and system design

3. Experience prototyping with novel sensing and display technologies
