Job DescriptionPosition SummaryThe Senior Web Developer leads front-end development of the analyst-facing DPL experience: the landing page, search, results, product view and interactive map. This person turns Crimson's editorially styled design approach into a responsive, accessible, production-quality web application consistent with OrcSrvcs and other IC dissemination interfaces. The base period requires two Senior Web Developers. One continues through each option period to deliver the author feedback interface and domain-specific front-end configuration.
Key Responsibilities- Landing page and UI/UX (PWS 5.1.1): Build a modern, editorially styled interface with strong typographic hierarchy, scannable card-based result summaries, deliberate use of white space and clear separation between search, browse and product-detail views. Follow IC dissemination patterns (intuitive navigation, saved searches, product preview), the NGA Style Guide and the OrcSrvcs look and feel.
- Product rendering (PWS 5.1.2): Build template-driven, modular, version-controlled presentation components that render current-template HTML on demand for all eleven product types from RIS JSON. Design them so the Government can update templates without contractor code changes.
- Search experience (PWS 5.1.3): Build faceted spatial, temporal and metadata search, including area-of-interest drawing, date-range and recency filters, keyword and natural-language input with LLM-assisted query expansion, and fast, paginated result presentation.
- Map visualization (PWS 5.1.4): Build the "Map of the World" landing view, with regions shaded by product density, recency or releasability, hover previews, and click-through to filtered results or a single product. Provide tailorable basemaps, AOI filtering and drill-down from map markers, with map and list views kept in sync through the shared search index.
- Security-aware presentation (PWS 5.1.5): Display only security-trimmed results and metadata, render classification banners and portion markings correctly, and manage GEOAxIS single sign-on sessions.
- Performance and accessibility (PWS 5.1.6): Optimize front-end performance (code splitting, lazy loading, caching) toward sub-2-second responses, and meet Section 508 / Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 accessibility requirements.
- Option period features: Build the author feedback interface, linking comments, quality assessments, suggested revisions and enhancement requests to product metadata (PWS 5.1.10). Handle front-end configuration for Secret and FVEY Partner domain deployments and display of partner product types (PWS 5.1.9, 5.1.11, 5.1.12).
- Engineering practice: Write unit, component and end-to-end tests that contribute to at least 90% meaningful coverage. Submit all work through peer-reviewed pull requests and the GitLab CI/CD pipeline, consume APIs through OpenAPI contracts, and follow formal web development standards and Twelve-Factor principles.
- Advisory and documentation: Carry out studies and analyses and recommend web technologies. Evaluate and integrate Government off-the-shelf (GOTS) and COTS web components, and prepare SWAP submissions. Develop technical, user and administrator documentation. Present at sprint demos, support TAC defect work-off and transfer knowledge to Erebus.
- Technical leadership: Mentor mid-level and junior developers and lead front-end design reviews.
Required SkillsRequired Qualifications- More than 8 years of professional web application development; BA/BS in Computer Science or a related field, or 10-15 years of experience in the labor category.
- Active TS/SCI clearance. Willing to take, or has already passed, a Counterintelligence-Scope Polygraph.
- Expert in modern JavaScript/TypeScript front-end frameworks (e.g., React, Angular or Vue), HTML5, CSS3/SASS and responsive design.
- Hands-on experience with web mapping libraries (e.g., OpenLayers, Leaflet, CesiumJS or the ArcGIS Maps SDK for JavaScript), GeoJSON and tiled map services (Web Map Service/Web Map Tile Service).
- Experience consuming RESTful JSON APIs defined by OpenAPI specifications.
- Front-end test automation (e.g., Jest, Cypress or Playwright), Git workflows, GitLab CI/CD and containerized deployment.
Desired SkillsDesired Qualifications- Experience developing web applications on NGA CORE/OpenShift or in C2S.
- UI/UX and Human-Centered Design experience, design systems, and data visualization (e.g., D3.js).
- Experience building search interfaces backed by Elasticsearch or OpenSearch.
- Experience with IC dissemination interfaces or GEOINT products, including classification marking in the UI.
- Section 508 / WCAG 2.1 accessibility expertise.
