Job Description:

Transform technology into opportunity as a DevOps Engineer with GDIT. A career in enterprise IT means connecting and enhancing the systems that matter most. At GDIT you'll be at the forefront of innovation and play a meaningful part in improving how agencies operate.

At GDIT, people are our differentiator. As a DevOps Engineer you will help ensure today is safe and tomorrow is smarter. We're looking for a DevOps Engineer to join a high-impact team supporting mission-critical systems for enterprise applications in cloud and on-premise environments. The ideal candidate will combine deep technical knowledge with proactive problem-solving, stakeholder engagement, and strong security-first thinking.

This is a hands-on engineering role requiring demonstrated experience in cloud-native DevSecOps practices, secure infrastructure management, and lifecycle support for complex systems. You'll also be expected to help optimize operations, support compliance initiatives, and lead system modernization efforts.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Deploy, support, and troubleshoot enterprise web applications using AWS and Tomcat; perform in-depth log analysis for root cause identification
  • Maintain and harden AWS-hosted environments (EC2, RDS, Lambda, KMS, etc.) with CI/CD support and automation tooling (GitLab, Terraform, Jenkins)
  • Perform OS and software upgrades across Linux (RHEL, CentOS, Rocky, Ubuntu) and Windows platforms
  • Monitor infrastructure health using tools like Cloudwatch, Icinga, SIEM, Kibana and custom logs to ensure high availability
  • Support and maintain encryption technologies (KMS, Vormetric, PKI) and manage certificate lifecycles
  • Provide incident response and after-hours support for outages and security events (on-call/pager duty)
  • Draft and maintain technical documentation (SOPs, Architecture Diagrams, ATO artifacts, After Action Reports)
  • Track and manage privileged access, database credentials, and system accounts securely
  • Participate in architecture reviews and help drive infrastructure optimization efforts
  • Coordinate with software developers, security teams, and stakeholders to ensure system reliability and compliance

REQUIRED TECHNICAL SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:
  • 3-5+ years of specific experience supporting cloud-hosted web applications and infrastructure
  • Strong Linux/Unix administration experience with scripting (Shell, Python, Bash)
  • Demonstrated expertise in AWS core services (EC2, RDS, Lambda, S3, KMS, CloudFormation)
  • Experience troubleshooting Tomcat/Java-based web applications
  • Familiarity with DevSecOps principles, CI/CD pipelines, and infrastructure as code
  • Proven track record of handling compliance documentation (e.g., ATO, POA&Ms, contingency planning)
  • Experience with monitoring, vulnerability scanning, and proactive incident response
  • Excellent written communication skills for documentation and stakeholder reporting

DESIRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:
  • Experience migrating or modernizing legacy systems to the cloud (AWS, Azure, Google Cloud Platform)
  • Proficiency in infrastructure-as-code tools (Terraform, CloudFormation, Ansible)
  • Familiarity with containerization (Docker) and orchestration
  • Working knowledge of RDBMS platforms (PostgreSQL, MySQL, Oracle, Kafka)
  • Prior experience supporting federal customers or FedRAMP-compliant environments
  • Understanding of security frameworks (NIST CSF, RMF) and incident handling

IDEAL CANDIDATE ATTRIBUTES:
  • Mission-focused with a strong ownership mentality
  • Can operate cross-functionally across software, infrastructure, and security domains
  • Proactive about solving problems before they impact end users
  • Comfortable taking initiative, mentoring peers, and driving technical improvements

WHAT YOU'LL NEED TO SUCCEED:
  • Education: BA/BS in Computer Science or IT related field
  • Experience: 10+ years
  • Security Clearance Level: TS/SCI with Polygraph
  • Location: Herndon, VA (On Customer Site)
  • ship Required
