Summary

Resource 1 is seeking a Sr. Dynamics 365 Finance Functional Consultant for a hybrid contract position in Chicago. The initial term of the contract will be 6 months, with extensions anticipated.

Our client is undergoing a large-scale ERP transformation to implement Microsoft Dynamics 365 Finance & Operations (D365 F&O). They are seeking a Dynamics 365 Finance Consultant to serve as a Finance Subject Matter Expert (SME) and client-side functional consultant supporting the Finance workstream.

This role is primarily focused on solution validation, requirements clarification, testing support, and review of vendor deliverables. In the early phases of the project, the work will be validation- and workshop-heavy, with emphasis on reviewing requirements, supporting design discussions, and ensuring alignment between business needs and the implementation partner’s solution. As the program progresses into build, testing, and deployment, the role will become increasingly hands-on within D365 Finance environments.

The implementation partner will lead design and configuration activities, while this consultant ensures alignment to business requirements and intended outcomes. The consultant will support business analysis activities, validate configurations, review deliverables, assist with testing, and contribute to training and operational readiness. Responsibilities will include participation in discovery workshops, support of fit-gap analysis, and ongoing validation of finance requirements throughout the project lifecycle.

Hands-on work within D365 Finance environments (DEV, TEST, UAT) and close collaboration with business and technical stakeholders will be critical to success. The ideal candidate is comfortable working in evolving project conditions, can quickly adapt to shifting priorities, and proactively drives clarity between business users and the implementation team.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Partner with Finance stakeholders to validate business requirements across modules such as General Ledger, Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, Fixed Assets, Treasury, and Financial Reporting.
  • Ensure finance requirements align with approved design decisions, accounting principles, and reporting expectations.
  • Support Finance leadership and the ERP Program team in evaluating solution options and clarifying functional design decisions.
  • Act as a client-side functional analyst, helping to clarify requirements, investigate issues, and bridge communication between finance stakeholders and the implementation partner.
  • Support fit-gap analysis activities and assist in documenting requirements, acceptance criteria, and supporting artifacts in Azure DevOps (ADO).
  • Review and validate vendor-delivered configurations, data setups, and parameter settings within D365 Finance environments (DEV, TEST, UAT), ensuring alignment to requirements.
  • Support functional, integration, and user acceptance testing (UAT) activities, including issue triage, defect clarification, and coordination with the implementation partner for resolution.
  • Review and validate vendor-delivered artifacts, such as:
    • Functional Design Documents (FDDs)
    • Solution blueprints and design documentation
    • Test scripts and testing results
    • Data migration and reconciliation outputs
  • Identify, document, and escalate functional gaps, risks, or inconsistencies in vendor deliverables and proposed solutions.
  • Participate in discovery and design workshops led by the implementation partner, ensuring finance requirements are accurately captured, understood, and validated.
  • Support Finance workstream planning and execution activities, including cutover readiness, go-live preparation, and stabilization support.
  • Support training readiness activities and assist with end-user enablement (training is supported, not fully owned end-to-end).
  • Collaborate closely with ERP Business Analysts, Solution Architects, Finance stakeholders, and implementation partner teams across all phases of the SDLC.
  • Support activities across discovery, design validation, build, testing, deployment, and post-go-live stabilization phases, with responsibilities evolving and becoming more hands-on as the project progresses.

Required Skills & Experience

  • Minimum 5+ years of hands-on experience with Microsoft Dynamics 365 Finance (D365 F&O), specifically finance-related modules (e.g., General Ledger, Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, Fixed Assets, Treasury).
  • Strong functional knowledge of financial processes, accounting principles, and financial reporting.
  • Proven experience in enterprise ERP implementations or large-scale ERP transformation programs.
  • Strong experience in business analysis, including requirements validation, documentation, and fit-gap support (not ownership of solution design).
  • Experience reviewing and validating ERP configurations, test artifacts, and vendor deliverables against defined requirements.
  • Experience supporting UAT, QA validation, and issue investigation/triage in ERP environments.
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to translate between business stakeholders and technical implementation teams.
  • Comfortable working in fast-paced, evolving environments with ambiguous or changing requirements.
  • Energetic self-starter with a strong sense of urgency, accountability, and follow-through.

Preferred Skills

  • Prior experience working for an implementation partner or consulting firm supporting D365 implementations.
  • Experience working in client-side ERP governance, validation, or transformation support role.
  • Experience facilitating or supporting workshops and working sessions (not primary workshop lead).
  • Background in ERP testing, QA support, security validation, or data validation activities.
  • Familiarity with Azure DevOps (ADO) for requirements tracking and project collaboration.
  • Experience supporting post-go-live stabilization and ERP enhancement initiatives.

Medical insurance and a 401(k) plan is offered to all eligible W2 employees.
