The Vision
Asset-heavy industries are losing decades of undocumented, tacit knowledge as their workforce retires. Simultaneously, they are discovering that purely probabilistic Generative AI is too unreliable for safety-critical infrastructure. At GlobalLogic/Hitachi, we solve this through a hybrid GenAI/Neuro-Symbolic approach: using frontier LLMs to extract unstructured knowledge and synthesizing it into rigorous, deterministic world models. This knowledge-as-code grounds our AI agents, guaranteeing safety, compliance, and accurate execution within physical environments.

The Role
You sit at the intersection of systems architecture, industry standards (e.g., IEC CIM), and human-in-the-loop knowledge extraction. Rather than manually mapping data, together with our AI architects you will design the automated pipelines and extraction engines that translate messy, real-world operational realities into the clean, logical ontologies that power our autonomous AI agents.

What You Will Do

• Abstract Reality into Ontology: Define the "physics" and world model of the business domain. You will architect the systems that automatically extract formal ontologies from unstructured data (manuals, legacy DBs) and define the synthetic datasets required to train and validate our AI agents.
• Deep Domain Immersion & Knowledge Elicitation: You will not architect systems from an ivory tower. You will immerse yourself in the client s operational world, working face-to-face with senior, retiring domain experts. Through hands-on interviews and the design of assistive AI workflows, you will capture their unwritten rules, heuristics, and troubleshooting logic.
• Architect Scalable Frameworks: Build dynamic knowledge architectures that seamlessly bridge rigid industry standards, proprietary operational reality, and ground-truth physical telemetry.
• Enable Human-Machine Interoperability: Design ontologies that are intuitive enough for human experts to validate and govern, yet mathematically rigorous enough to safely direct autonomous AI agents.
• Translate Semantics to Execution: Partner with AI developers to implement deterministic validation rules, advanced RAG architectures (e.g., GraphRAG), and knowledge-as-code paradigms to ground multi-agent frameworks and prevent AI hallucinations.

What We Are Looking For
(Note: We care about how you abstract knowledge. AI can write query syntax; it cannot design your cognitive architecture. The CTO AI office is a strictly AI-first environment - we provide, and expect you to heavily leverage, Gemini Ultra subscription to accelerate your coding, syntax, and daily workflows so you can focus purely on high-level abstraction.)

• Conceptual Modeling: Deep expertise in ontology design and graph paradigms (Semantic Web/RDF/OWL, Property Graphs/Neo4j, predicate logic, or hybrid Vector/GraphRAG architectures). Your true skill is the abstraction process itself.
• Expert Elicitation & Empathy: You are a systems thinker with high emotional intelligence. You know how to sit down with non-technical subject matter experts, ask the right questions to uncover tacit knowledge, and make them feel deeply valued as you digitize their life's work.
• Dynamic Architecture: Experience designing living systems that manage versioning, data provenance, and continuous feedback loops to refine the model over time.
• The Bridge Builder: Proven ability to map unstructured reality to complex enterprise data standards (e.g., CIM in energy, FIBO in finance, HL7 in healthcare).
• Deterministic Thinker: You know the limits of GenAI and how to build the structural guardrails required for safety-critical physical environments.

Experience & Education Requirements

• Experience: 5+ years dedicated to data and knowledge architecture, semantic web technologies, or complex data ontology engineering, including at least 1-2 years of direct experience integrating these structures with Large Language Models (LLMs) or GenAI pipelines.
• Domain Expertise: Proven track record working with asset-heavy industries (Energy, Utilities, Manufacturing, etc.) and familiarity with their IT/OT environments (e.g., AVEVA PI, SAP, Maximo).
• Education: Bachelor s, Master s, or PhD in Computer Science, Cognitive Science, Information Systems, Applied Mathematics, or a related field.

The "Non-Traditional" Clause: We value rigorous logical thinking above specific degrees. If your academic background is in Formal Logic, Philosophy, or Linguistics, and you have successfully transitioned into deep enterprise technical architecture, we highly encourage you to apply.

GlobalLogic estimates the starting pay range for this role to be performed remotely in the US is $170,000 to $180,000 and reflects base salary only. This pay range is provided as a good faith estimate and the amount offered may be higher or lower. GlobalLogic takes many factors into consideration in making an offer, including candidate qualifications, work experience, operational needs, travel and onsite requirements, internal peer equity, prevailing wage, responsibilities, and other market and business considerations.
