About the Role
We're looking for a data developer to sit in our small team who is comfortable and apt at development across the data lifecycle - comfortable modeling data and tuning production queries in an OLTP environment as well as acquiring and modelling data in a data warehouse and associated pipelines. You won't be siloed into "just pipelines" or "just the warehouse." You'll work with data from the source systems where it's born, ad-hoc data sources, through ingestion and modeling, into a Snowflake warehouse on which the entire business relies.
.
Essential Functions
- Model and tune data at both ends of the spectrum - design schemas for transactional (OLTP) systems and dimensional models for the data warehouse.
- Build and operate resilient ingestion pipelines in SSIS and Azure Data Factory.
- Integrate external data via flat files and APIs - ingest data from various sources.
- Be accountable for data quality - investigate discrepancies calmly and systematically and leave inherited data concerns better than you found them.
- Assist with upkeep and maintenance of corporate data stores.
- Support AI-forward development and deliverables
Skills and Requirements
- Strong SQL and query tuning skills and instincts: indexing, performance tuning, execution-plan reading, and a mental checklist for the dev-vs-prod performance gap.
- Solid data modeling: OLTP vs data warehousing tradeoffs, load logic conditions to meet analytic requirements
- Real experience with data movement, lineage and pipelines via ETL/ELTs, flat files and API-hosted data acquisition.
Tooling
- Microsoft SQL Server & SSMS - fluency with both on prem and Azure (cloud) offerings
- SSIS and Azure Data Factory
- Cloud Data Warehousing - fluency in a cloud data warehouse environments such as Snowflake
- API integration - pagination, rate limiting, retries, OAuth/token refresh, schemadrift defense, and reconciliation.
Education and Experience
- Bachelor's Degree or equivalent combination of certification/education and experience
- 5 years' experience database development in Microsoft SQL Server 2016-2022 and/or Azure SQL Database/SQL Managed Instances
- 5 years' experience in Transact SQL
- 2-3 years' experience with SQL Server Integration Services (SSIS) and/or Azure Data Factory
