Summary

Summary

The Shaw Engineering Development Program (SEDP) is a 24-month early career rotational program designed to give recent engineering graduates structured, hands-on exposure to multiple roles, teams, and technologies across Shaw. Participants typically complete four six-month rotations while contributing to active projects, developing multidisciplinary knowledge, and receiving guidance from experienced engineers and senior leaders. The program is designed to build well-rounded engineers who understand how engineering, design, fabrication, project execution, and supporting functions work together to deliver successful projects.

Responsibilities
  • Complete assigned rotations and learningobjectiveswhile contributing to real project work, deliverables, schedules, quality requirements, and team commitments.
  • Develop P&ID drafting skills, including process-flow interpretation, equipment and instrument tagging, line numbering, drawing symbology, change management, and multidisciplinary coordination.
  • Develop pipingdesign skills using 2D and 3D tools, including equipment layout, piping specifications, routing, supports, material takeoffs, orthographic drawings, and isometrics.
  • Complete an engineeringdisciplinerotation based on business needs, qualifications, interests, and available project assignments.
  • Support project teams through assignments in project engineering, project controls, estimating, planning, construction support, or related projectdelivery functions.
  • Use CAD, modeling, visualization, calculation, document-management, and other engineering toolsappropriate toeach assignment.
  • Participate in project meetings, design reviews, interdisciplinary checks, site visits, inspections, and client or vendor interactions when assigned.
  • Prepare clear technical documents, reports, calculations, drawings, presentations, status updates, and other rotation deliverables.

Education and Experience
  • Bachelor's degree in mechanical, Electrical, Process, Chemical, Civil, Structural, or another relevant engineering discipline from an accredited program.
  • Recent graduate or early-career engineer with zero to two years of relevant experience; internships, co-ops, research, or project-team experience are preferred.
  • Foundational understanding of engineering principles and the ability to apply academic knowledge to practical project assignments.
  • Working knowledge of CAD, modeling, calculation, or engineering-documentation tools; experience with AutoCAD, Plant 3D, Navisworks, or similar platforms is helpful.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, organizational, technicalwriting, presentation, communication, and teamwork skills.
  • Ability to manage changing priorities, learn new disciplines and systems, and work effectively in an accelerated development environment.

  • Participants are paired with experienced leaders or mentors for technical guidance, feedback, professional development, and career support.
  • Progress is evaluated throughout the program against critical success factors, including communication, analytical ability, problem solving, teamwork, adaptability, attention to detail, and passion for learning.
  • Successful completion includes required learning assessments and a post-SEDP interview to review experience, interests, career goals, available opportunities, and placement preferences.

Physical Requirements
  • Ability to reach, stand, walk, use fingers, grasp, feel, talk, hear, see, and perform repetitive motions.
