We are seeking a Software Engineer II to support the C5I (Command, Control, Communications, Computing, Cyber and Intelligence) product line within the Missile Defense Sensors (MDS) Software Department. The MDS mission is to deliver world-class radar and Command and Control (C2) software for our customers' wide array of surveillance and warning systems.

Our C5I teams work across technologies including C++, Java, JavaScript/TypeScript, Lua, C#, and Python, delivering Linux services, microservices, REST APIs, Windows front-end applications, and HTML/TypeScript UIs. We operate using Agile and DevSecOps principles, enabling high-frequency, high-quality deployments across the value stream.

The ideal candidate has a strong foundation in software development, works well in team environments, and is eager to grow their skills building complex, real-time, mission-critical systems.

This position is located onsite in Tewksbury, Massachusetts.

What You Will Do
  • Assist with the requirements, design, development, and testing of software features across Linux services, microservices, REST APIs, and UI components.
  • Develop and maintain software in languages such as C++, Java, JavaScript/TypeScript, Lua, C#, and Python as part of a multi-language, full-stack environment.
  • Implement updates and enhancements to existing components to improve performance, maintainability, and reliability.
  • Participate in internal reviews of software components-design reviews, code reviews, and test readiness reviews.
  • Contribute to testing frameworks, unit testing, and CI/CD-driven software integration to enable consistent, high-quality deliveries.
  • Work on tasks with clearly defined scope, schedule, and expectations while following established development processes and coding standards.
  • Collaborate with Systems Engineering, Integration & Test, and other stakeholders to ensure proper integration and alignment.

What You Will Learn
  • How C5I applications are designed and developed across multiple languages and platforms, including services and user interfaces.
  • Techniques for debugging, troubleshooting, and resolving software issues in real-time and mission-critical environments.
  • Best practices for Agile execution, Continuous Integration/Continuous Delivery (CI/CD), DevSecOps workflows, and high-frequency delivery pipelines.
  • How to participate in structured software engineering processes, including requirements analysis, design collaboration, code reviews, and testing.
  • How large, complex Command-and-Control and defense systems integrate across multiple engineering disciplines.

Qualifications You Must Have
  • Typically requires a Bachelor's of Science Degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) and a minimum of 2 years of prior relevant experience unless prohibited by local laws/regulations.
  • Experience with one or more programming languages such as Java, C++, JavaScript/TypeScript, Lua, C#, or Python, with the willingness to learn others.
  • Experience developing software in a team-based Agile environment.
  • Ability to obtain U.S. government issued Secret security clearance is required after start date.

Qualifications We Prefer
  • Experience with CI/CD tools (e.g., Jenkins), version control and configuration management tools (e.g., Git, Bitbucket, Artifactory), and scripting or data tools (e.g., Python, MATLAB).
  • Knowledge of data structures, algorithms, memory management, and multithreaded programming.
  • Exposure to C5I/Command-and-Control environments, such as Link16, HMI development, or Mission Defense Planning.
  • Familiarity with large, complex systems like ADOC C5I or NASAMS.
  • Strong communication, documentation, and presentation skills.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, dynamic environment with time-critical deadlines.
  • Experience collaborating in teams to develop creative solutions to technical challenges.
  • Interest in continuous learning, cross-team collaboration, and participating in shared training opportunities.
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills.
  • Ability to follow established development processes and work effectively on well-defined tasks.
