Job Title: Senior Python Cloud-Native Backend Engineer
Overview
We are looking for a strong Senior Backend Engineer with deep expertise in Python, modern web frameworks, and cloud-native development on AWS
The ideal candidate will have strong hands-on experience developing scalable backend services, RESTful APIs, distributed systems, and microservicesusing Python and frameworks such as Django and FastAPI, along with solid experience in AWS, containerization, CI/CD, and modern software engineering practices.
This role provides an opportunity to work on high-scale, business-critical systems and contribute to the modernization of the platform toward RESTful APIs, microservices, and cloud-native solutions.
Key Responsibilities
• Design, develop, and maintain scalable, reliable, and high-performance backend services using Python.
• Build production-grade web services and RESTful APIs using Django, FastAPI, or similar Python web frameworks.
• Design and develop modular, maintainable, testable, and secure backend architectures.
• Develop and deploy cloud-native applications and services on AWS.
• Design solutions with a strong focus on scalability, availability, fault tolerance, performance, and reliability.
• Contribute to modernization of existing SOAP-based integrations toward RESTful APIs and microservices-based architectures.
• Implement asynchronous processing, concurrency, and distributed system patterns where appropriate.
• Develop and maintain CI/CD pipelines and automate build, testing, deployment, and operational workflows.
• Work with Docker, Kubernetes, Terraform, and Infrastructure-as-Code practices to deploy and manage cloud-native services.
• Implement effective monitoring, logging, metrics, and distributed tracing to ensure strong observability.
• Troubleshoot complex production, performance, and reliability issues and drive root-cause analysis and resolution.
• Work with SQL and NoSQL databases and design appropriate data-access and persistence strategies.
• Participate in technical design discussions, code reviews, and architecture reviews.
• Write high-quality, well-tested, secure, and maintainable code following engineering best practices.
• Collaborate with product, QA, DevOps, and other engineering teams to deliver reliable solutions.
• Contribute to technical debt reduction, platform optimization, and continuous engineering improvements.
Skills & Qualifications
• Strong hands-on experience in Python backend development, with a track record of building production-grade services and APIs.
• Strong hands-on experience with Python web frameworks such as Django and FastAPI.
• Strong understanding of Python fundamentals, including async programming, concurrency, error handling, testing, and performance optimization.
• Strong experience designing and developing RESTful APIs, microservices, and distributed systems.
• Strong understanding of API design principles, authentication, authorization, validation, versioning, error handling, and API security.
• Strong experience developing and operating applications in AWS cloud environments.
• Experience building cloud-native applications and working with modern cloud architectures.
• Hands-on experience with Docker and Kubernetes.
• Experience with Terraform or other Infrastructure-as-Code tools.
• Strong understanding of CI/CD and DevOps practices.
• Experience with SQL and NoSQL databases, including database design and performance optimization.
• Good understanding of distributed-system concepts including scalability, availability, resilience, retries, timeouts, circuit breakers, and fault tolerance.
• Experience with observability, including metrics, logging, monitoring, and distributed tracing.
• Experience with automated testing, including unit, integration, and API testing.
• Strong debugging, problem-solving, and analytical skills.
• Good understanding of secure software development and cloud security best practices.
• Ability to independently own technical problems from design through implementation, testing, deployment, and production support.
Good to Have
• Experience with Kafka or other distributed messaging/event-streaming platforms.
• Experience with caching technologies such as Redis.
• Experience building serverless or event-driven architectures.
• Experience with Python performance engineering and optimization.
• Experience with airline, travel, reservation, or other transaction-intensive systems.
• AWS certification such as Solutions Architect, Developer, or DevOps Engineer.
• Experience working with legacy SOAP/XML-based integrations and modernization to REST/microservices.
• Basic understanding of C++ for legacy integrations is a plus.
