Role Summary
The Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) Specialist role is a critical position responsible for implementing and maintaining safety, health, and environmental programs across multiple construction site projects. This senior-level position requires ensuring compliance with federal, state, and local regulations, while fostering a culture of safety among personnel. The role involves conducting inspections, managing safety programs, and providing expert guidance to project teams to mitigate hazards and promote a secure work environment.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct routine safety, health, and environmental inspections at construction sites, documenting deficiencies and tracking corrective actions.
  • Manage contractor safety programs by participating in pre-construction, pre-work, and in-progress safety meetings.
  • Collect, analyze, and report data on EHS performance, creating statistical and narrative reports to inform safety decision-making.
  • Maintain detailed records of safety inspections, audits, and compliance activities.
  • Apply established safety standards to ensure site adherence to OSHA, Cal OSHA, and consensus standards like NFPA 70E, ANSI, and NFPA 101.
  • Collaborate with department managers and EHS personnel to develop and implement hazard analysis, problem-solving initiatives, and corrective action plans.
  • Develop and update EHS policies, procedures, and training programs aligned with compliance requirements.
  • Act as a resource for management and staff on EHS issues, promoting safety best practices and culture.
  • Conduct accident and near-miss investigations to identify root causes and implement mitigation strategies.
  • Perform safety hazard analyses, providing hazard mitigation strategies and support to ensure ongoing site safety.

Qualifications

  • This position requires eligibility for a U.S. Government security clearance. In accordance with federal law, U.S. citizenship is required.
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Occupational Safety, Safety Engineering, Environmental Health, Industrial Engineering, or related field with 8-10 years of progressive safety program experience, or Master''s Degree with 6-8 years of experience; applicable experience may substitute for education.
  • Certified Safety Professional (CSP) designation required.
  • Valid California driver’s license and ability to manage safety across multiple construction sites.
  • Proven ability to manage EHS programs in dynamic environments with shifting priorities and deadlines.
  • Strong technical knowledge of federal, state, and local safety regulations, including OSHA, EPA, NFPA 70E, and NIOSH standards.
  • Experience with safety auditing, compliance, and industry performance metrics such as OSHA recordables and injury rates.
  • Excellent communication, organizational, and leadership skills, with the ability to prepare and present reports at all management levels.
  • Proficiency in MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and relevant IT systems.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and climb antennas up to 250 feet.
  • Availability to work on-site at construction locations.

Publishing Pay Range: $40.00 - $45.00 hourly

This position is based in office and requires employee to work on-site.
